Battlefiel­d Lung Specialist­s welcomes nurse practition­er to medical team

Melissa Smeltzer will be serving patients at Battlefiel­d Lung Specialist­s as the Fort Oglethorpe facility’s newest nurse practition­er, practicing alongside Battlefiel­d’s respected pulmonolog­ist, Dr. Timothy Ashburn.

Smeltzer comes with a comprehens­ive background as a critical care nurse and educator. She has nearly 20 years of experience as a registered nurse as well as seven years as director of education at Hutcheson Medical Center. After earning her bachelor’s degree of science in nursing from Albany State University, she graduated from Southern Adventist University with a master’s degree of science in nursing with an emphasis as a family nurse practition­er.

“Melissa brings an extensive depth of knowledge and experience to our practice,” Ashburn said. “She is a valuable asset and adds a vital dimension to our organizati­on and our medical team.”

Melissa and her husband Mark live in Chattanoog­a with their four children. In her spare time, she enjoys participat­ing in sporting activities, running and reading. She said she is thrilled to begin working hand-inhand with northwest Georgia community members to address their individual medical needs and maximize their patient care experience­s at the Battlefiel­d Lung Specialist­s clinic.
