LFO's Eaves to play for Birmingham Southern University

-

Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe senior standout athlete Sam Eaves recently ended his baseball career for the Warriors.

However, the multisport athlete is focused in on what’s ahead after recently signing a scholarship to continue his career on the gridiron at Birmingham Southern University.

Eaves, who was also recently named Mr. LFO, said he’s looking forward to new adventures and sad to leave his high school behind.

“I’m excited as well as nervous at the same time about a new school and new team,” the wide receiver and defensive end said. “I’m going to be meeting a lot of new people and I’m not going to be the senior anymore. I’m going to be the freshmen and will have to work my way up to the top again.”

Eaves said he has nothing but positive things to say at LFO.

He said it’s going to be very hard leaving his home and school where both his parents Rhonda Tapp Eaves and father Chris Eaves were standout athletes and sister Sydeny still attends.

“I’m really going to miss it down at LFO,” he said. “We had a lot of good memories with friends, coaches, family and team. It’s going to be different not going to the same school anymore but I’ll always be a Warrior at heart.”

Eaves, who will be graduating with a 3.8 GPA, said he hopes to make an immediate impact on the team in college.

Former LFO football coach Todd Windham coached Eaves for four years. He said he believed he will continue to succeed beyond high school. He said it was mostly due to his character, values and discipline.

“I believe Sam will do very well,” he said. “He’s put in an enormous amount of time and he’s been very dedicated and committed.”

Windham said he and his staff preached about being “a good person, good student and a good athlete.”

He said Eaves was the role model student athlete when it came to those key factors to success.

“Sam is probably one of the kids that epitomized that formula,” he said. “I think his success will come from having those values and his passion for the game.”

Eaves said he plans to become a physical therapist.

He said he would like to thank his family, coaches, teachers and friends that have supported him.
