Local businessman Jeff Holcomb is spending days in the sweltering summer heat trying to garner support for his Georgia House District 3 run, by trying to meet as many voters as possible before the July 26 runoff election.

“I’ve been doing a lot of door-to-door stuff every day trying to meet as many people as I can personally… just talking to folks, that kind of thing,” Holcomb said. “It’s been hot, but rain, shine, high winds, or whatever, I’ll be out there.

Holcomb, a long-time lawman and current law student, is a former chief of the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department and now runs a small security business in downtown Ringgold.

He says, most of all, he just wants the seat so he can be a voice for the people of the district.

“I didn’t like the way things went down during the initial qualifying period, and a lot of other people didn’t either” Holcomb said. “It just didn’t seem appropriate to me, and a lot of people I’ve talked to feel like a fast one was trying to be pulled on them. I want to run for the seat to help the people of our district.”

Holcomb says he had great conversations with local residents during his cam-

Former Catoosa County commissioner and local businessman Dewayne Hill is making his final campaign push to become the state representative of House District 3, which will be decided in a special runoff election Tuesday, July 26.

“We’ve been out knocking on doors, meeting and greeting, and we’ve been really busy,” Hill said. “From daylight to dark, we’re out there….making telephone calls and just getting out in the district and trying to talk with everybody.”

“It’s been good to talk to folks and shake people hands, and talk about things that concern folks in our district,” Hill said. “We’ve been reminding about early voting. We may not see as many folks at the polls this time around, but we’ve been getting lots of positive feedback.”

Hill says his platform is built on protecting the Second Amendment, religious freedom and economic growth.

“I’m a long-time NRA man, and I have an endorsement from the Georgia Right to Life organization,” Hill said. “As a commissioner, I helped save a lot of jobs in the area at the Shaw plant, and I still want to see more economic growth in our country and bring more jobs here to our district. People know I’m all for economic devel-

opment. If you bring in good development into our county it takes some of the tax burden off of our residents and our seniors. It also helps smaller business owners like myself.”

Hill said he’s also a big advocate for education and is very excited about the new Georgia Northwestern Technical College Catoosa County campus.

“Maybe it will help get the city of Ringgold some new restaurants and some good manufacturing

jobs,” Hill said. “I also have a good working relationship with Fort Oglethorpe as well. We can all work together as a team. We have that working relationship.”

Hill says he really wants to take what he learned as a commissioner and apply work in Atlanta.

“I’m looking forward to that challenge of taking on Atlanta,” he said. “I’ve worked with some of those folks already. I’ve been getting acquainted with the people working down in Atlanta and I’d like to work with them to bring growth and education

here to our area.

Most of all, Hill says he wants people to know the type of guy he is and where his values are.

“Integrity, character, experience, and the ability to work with those in Atlanta….when you go to do anything political, relationships are very, very important,” Hills said. “I also have good Christian values…. A lot of the decisions ought to be up to the local folks, and I can work with them well to help make sure we’re taking care of our children for the future.”
