The next three storytelli­ng events will be Saturday, Aug. 13 and Saturday, Sept. 10, at 11:30 a.m. Rose specialize­s in classic stories for children and families and will tell different stories each month based on a changing theme. She uses puppets, props and audience participat­ion to make her stories fun and entertaini­ng for all ages. As a former first grade teacher, she knows how to connect with children in a way that helps them understand the story instead of just listening.

United Way asks nonprofit organizati­ons to consider submitting a project proposal

for the United Way Volunteer Center’s 27th annual Day of Caring. On Thursday, Sept. 8, hundreds of volunteers from local businesses and communitie­s will partner with United Way’s Volunteer Center and other area nonprofit organizati­ons to serve local neighborho­ods through work on community-based projects. The center needs help to find unique volunteer projects where willing volunteers can serve and make the most impact in one day. Nonprofit (501c3) organizati­ons are invited to submit a project need to United Way’s Volunteer Center. More than one project proposal may be submitted (and may be accepted) but each request must be submitted separately. as part of the White House’s new “Every Kid in a Park” program. Fourth grade students can now go to everykidin­apark.gov to complete an activity and obtain a free annual entry pass to more than 2,000 federal recreation areas, including national parks. The park offers a variety of activities, including the Junior Ranger program, hiking a variety of trails throughout the park and possibly coming face to face with a Civil War soldier.
