- By Scott Herpst

Some familiar opponents, and a few new ones, will be on the docket when the Georgia Northwestern Lady Bobcats tip off the 2016-2017 basketball season on Nov. 1, their first season as a USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) member.

The Navy-and-Silver will open the season on the road in Madisonville, Tenn. against Hiwassee College before back-to-back home dates against Toccoa Falls (Nov. 4) and fellow USCAA newcomer Judson College (Nov. 8). Road games will follow against the Bryan College JV squad (Nov. 10) and Welch College (Nov. 12).

The Lady Bobcats will return to the friendly confines of the Rossville Athletic Center for six straight home games to close out 2016. They will face another USCAA member in Oakwood University (Nov. 14) before hosting Trinity Baptist College (Nov. 22).

Bryan’s JV squad comes in for a game on Dec. 1 and Georgia Northwestern’s final two games before the holiday break will come on Dec. 9 and 10 as they host the second annual Tim Walthour Memorial Tournament.

On Dec. 9, they will open against Trinity Baptist and they will wrap up play on Dec. 10 against former GCAA rival Southern Crescent Tech.

The team will open 2017 on the road in sunny Florida for a twoday tournament (Jan. 6-7) at Florida College in Temple Terrace, near Tampa. They will stay on the road for games at Judson (Jan. 10) and at Covenant College against the JV Lady Scots (Jan. 19) before returning home on Jan. 31 to face Welch on Veterans and Law Enforcement Recognition Night.

A return trip to Huntsville, Ala. to face Oakwood will take place on Feb. 3 and Hiwassee will come to Rossville the following night (Feb. 4) for the annual Pink Game for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Trips to Toccoa Falls (Feb. 10) and Southern Crescent Tech (Feb. 13) will be the final two road games of the regular season and the regular season will be capped by a visit from Covenant’s JV team on Feb. 16. Area Boy and Girl Scouts will also be recognized that night.

Georgia Northwestern will then wait to see if their power ranking will be good enough to land them a spot in the USCAA’s Division II Women’s National Tournament.
