- By Adam Cook

A Rossville man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and a woman who came to her aid.

According to the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office:

Robert Lee Hess, 33, of Hudson Street in Rossville was arrested Aug. 1 on charges of aggravated assault, battery, and criminal trespassing. Bond has been set at $8,000.

Deputies were dispatched to an assault call on July 28 in which a woman claimed Hess had attacked her.

The woman told police she was driving along Lakeview Drive when she encountered a battered female, reports show.

The woman said the battered female claimed to have just been attacked by her boyfriend and was fearful of returning to her residence.

The woman gave the lady a ride to the residence to offer support and help her retrieve her belongings, when Hess allegedly attacked her as well.

“She stated when they arrived at the residence, Mr. Hess became irate and began cussing at her,” Deputy Deric North said. “She stated Mr. Hess charged at her, at which time she got her miniature baseball bat for protection.”

The woman claims Hess threw her to the ground, kicked her in the face, and then took the baseball bat from her and struck her in the back with it, reports show.

Hess then allegedly took out his frustrations on the woman’s car by knocking her driver side mirror off with the bat.

“The woman had multiple visible injuries to her face, and she also had gravel on her face from being thrown to the ground,” North said. “She also had scrapes on her elbows and arms.”

North checked on Hess’ girlfriend minutes after the complaint was filed, but no one answered the door at the residence.

Warrants were taken out for Hess’ arrest and he turned himself in on Monday, Aug. 1.
