- By Misty Martin

Ringgold head football coach Robert Akins said, "hats off to Northwest Whitfield," following Friday's 49-24 loss against the visiting Bruins.

He said the Blue-and-Orange were "everything and more" they anticipated coming into their season opener.

"They're a really have a good football team," he said. "They have a lot of talent and are really good up front...I expected them to be."

Akins said he knew the Bruins would have a "great season," and believed the Blue-and-White would improve as well.

"We weren't very good against Northwest," he said. "I think our kids gave great effort. As coaches we have to do a better job of getting our kids in the right place at the right time."

Akins said they have "a long way to go," but he's confident and focused on Friday's game with visiting Heritage.

"We'll get where we need to be," he said.

The second Tigers score was a 27 yard pass from Cole Kibler to Mac Brower at the 2:43 mark of the third quarter. Drake Starks caught the 2pt-conversion from Kibler.

Eric King scored from the 1 late in the fourth quarter for the Tigers, and Jones reached the end zone once again with a pass from Kibler on the 2-pt-conversion.

Kibler, who finished then night 9-22-0 in passing, had 103 yards rushing on 15 carries
