LFO game with Sonoraville ends in 31-3 loss
Sonoraville's annual Homecoming ended in heartache on Friday with visiting LakeviewFort Oglethorpe.
The Phoenix, who won the shortened game 31-3, were soaring to its second overall win of the season when it was halted following a head-to-head hit involving LFO receiver Bryce Donahoo. He had just picked up a kickoff when the incident occurred at the 3:32 mark of the third quarter.
The game ended after Donahoo was transported to a local hospital and later released, but not before both teams came together for a word of prayer on the gridiron with both cheer squads.
The Warriors, who posted on their Facebook page that prayers were "going up high for Bryce" later reassured the community on social media saying he had suffered a "stinger."
During the competition,, the Phoenix rolled up 241 yards before halftime with the moves of Patrick Moore. The junior 5-foot-6, 140pound quarterback finished the night with over 130 yards rushing with 94 yards through the air.
After throwing to fullback Tyler Lyles for Sonoraville’s secondscore of night, Moore had a 95-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter to extend the lead to 23-0. He also added another score just before the half - a four-yard touchdown and ran in the two-point conversion.
LFO, who gave up its first touchdown early in the game after when a snap flew into the end zone resulting in a touchdown of Ryan Mcallion, is now 0-4. The Red-and-White finished with 110 yards of total offense in the first half.
The Warriors will host Haralson County on Friday for Homecoming.
