Ringgold PD places second in annual competition through Governor’s Office of Highway Safety
The Ringgold Police Department has a lot to be proud of after recently placing second in the “Governor’s Challenge,” an annual competition among law enforcement agencies through the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
“I would like to congratulate and thank the department for their diligence and dedication over the past year in keeping the city safe, and for achieving this feat with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety,” chief Dan Bilbrey said.
The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety sets objectives throughout the year for all law enforcement agencies in the state, such as seatbelt, speed, and DUI enforcement, as well as simple events that help inform communities on how to be more alert and safer drivers on the roadways.
Bilbrey says over the years, his agency has hosted and attended a number of meetings and training sessions pertaining to highway safety at various agencies.
“We work with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to help educate our citizens to not only think about, but to implement safe driving habits,” Bilbrey said. “Our department has received thousands of dollars in grants over the past several years, which have afforded the department the capability of purchasing equipment for our officers. This has saved a good amount of money that the city of Ringgold didn’t have to pay.”
Bilbrey was also complementary to the Cornelia Police Department, who took home first place honors.
“The Cornelia Police Department, not only wont first place right in the state of Georgia, but they are also the national winners,” Bilbrey explained. “It just goes to show that we have outstanding talent right here in our state. This is a great profession to be a part of, and I’m lucky to have such a great group of people to work with.”
