Heritage High School wind ensemble chosen to perform at national band festival

-

The Heritage High School Wind Ensemble was selected to perform as a featured band at the 2017 National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, Ind. Presented by Yamaha, the Music for All National Festival performance will be at Clowes Memorial Hall on the campus of Butler University March 9-11.

“This is a huge honor for our students to be selected to perform on a national stage such as the Music for All Festival,” said HHS band director Blair Callaway. “Our school is nine years old and we set long term goals to be recognized on a local, state and national level. This completes one of the goals from our first leadership meetings. The concert program has grown each year performing at a grade six (highest) level the past seven years. In my 25 years of teaching, this will be the most prestigious concert I have been a part of with my students.”

The wind ensemble was selected on the recommendation of a panel of evaluators and from a pool of applicant ensembles. As the only concert band selected from Georgia, the Heritage band will be representing their school, community and state.

The Heritage Wind Ensemble has been recognized at the local, state and regional level with invitations to perform at The University of Alabama, The University of Georgia, Troy University and Loyola University. The band has also been named an Exemplary Performance ensemble in 2012 and 2015 by the Georgia Music Educators Association.

Because the trip to Indianapolis will cost the students money above and beyond their regular band fees, the band is working on raising the $48,000. To help with the total cost or help an individual student take this trip, please contact Blair Callaway at bcallaway.hhs@catoosa.k12.ga.us.
