LFO falls to Murray, Indians secure first winning season since 2005

-

After a drought of 11 years, Murray County High School secured its first winning season since 2005 with a 42-24 victory over LakeviewFort Oglethrope. The Indians (6-3, 3-1 Region 6-3A North) were led by yet another record-setting performance by Tucker Gregg, who ran for 342 yards and four touchdowns on 28 carries.

“It means a lot to this community and to this school (to have a winning season),” Murray County coach Chad Brewer said. “You go 11 years and losing a lot of games and you don’t want that. Football is big in Murray County and it’s the heartbeat of this school. So it’s good to see we are winning games, scoring points and achieving goals like having a winning season and having a chance to make the playoffs.”

Quarterback Dominick Genitempo rushed for 102 yards on nine carries with two touchdowns and completed 3-of-5 passes for 35 yards. Braden Weaver reeled in two catches for 35 yards.

The Indians led 34-3 at halftime and Brewer said he tried to get some young guys in the game, but after a couple Warrior scores put the starters back in. Genitempo and Blaine Thornbury also reeled in an interception each.

With Bremen’s victory over Adairsville Friday night, it appears the Indians will travel to Bremen for the week 10 play-in game on Nov. 4 after a bye week next week.

Key highlights for LFO from the game included a 39 yard field goal late in the game from Jake Reid.

The Warriros will host North Murray in its final game of the season.
