Boynton gets hype for history-making Generals

The Generals hit the road on Friday to Mary Persons in Forsyth for second round of the GHSA Class AAAA football playoffs, but not before making a stop at Boynton Elementary.

The students, who were starstruck with their gridiron greats, lined the hallways with high-fives and team chants as the Navy-and-Red embraced the love and support from some of their smallest of Generals.

Heritage head coach E.K. Slaughter said their reaction was priceless.

“We’re pumped,” he said of what was ultimately their final game of the season following a 38-21 loss. “We’ve enjoyed being around each other for another week, and the community has been awesome. Being able to walk through and see all the faces of those future Generals smiling at you is awesome...it’s hard not to get emotional.”

Boynton physical education teacher, Mandy McKnight, said the entire student body looked forward to seeing the Generals off all week long.

“They were all so cute and so excited,” she said. “They were truly starstruck.”

Mrs. McKnight said the real excitement starts at home in her house with her son, Nelson. He’s one of many fifth-grade football players at Boynton that hasn’t missed a Generals’ home game this season.

Nelson, 10, who plays defensive end and guard on offense, said “it’s been a great run.”

“They came a long way,” he said.

J.C. Armour, 11, a quarterbac­k said one of his favorite things to do is cheer on Generals’ senior quarterbac­k Corbee Wilson on Friday nights along with junior Luke Grant.
