- By Misty Martin

The Ringgold girls’ basketball team was all business as usually on Friday against visiting Heritage in a standig-room only crowd in the final matchup on the schedule heading into Christmas break.

Lady Tigers’ head coach Margaret Stockburger said she wasn’t worried heading into game. However, she was pleased with her team’s overall performance under pressure following the 60-45 victory.

“It was a great environment to play in,” she said. “I don’t know if I was worried, but I wanted the players to play well and stay focused. I think they did.”

Stockburger said she thought they played well as a team, and it paid off. The Tigers were led by Rachel Thomas with 19 points; Kiwi Dale, 13 points and Dare Schley, 12.

“We’ve had spurts where we play really good, and really bad,” she said. “I feel like today we put a complete game together.”

The victory made the Blue-and-White 10-2 overall heading into the break with their next test set for three games this week in the Beech Christmas Tournament, beginning with Brentwood on Wednesday.

Stockburger said it’s going to be more like a getaway for her team, who are like family.

“We’re excited to get away, have some fun time together and play some basketball,” she said.

As for Heritage, who drops to 11-2 with the non-region loss, head coach Eddie Bryant said his team will be regrouping and focusing on their next game. It’s scheduled for Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Chattanooga State Tournament.

“We can just give all the credit to Ringgold,” he said. “They took us out of the game offensively,” he said. “They did everything they could’ve done and should’ve done. They totally took us out of the game...and we didn’t play a lot of defense. “
