Middle School Boys’ Basketball: Heritage claims NGAC East title

The Heritage Generals finished the regular season with a 12-1 league record to claim the NGAC Eastern Division regular season title with two wins last week.

Heritage boys 49, Trion 21

Nick Hanson and Franklin Almonte Arias led the Generals with 12 and 11 points, respective­ly, in last Tuesday’s victory. Jake Cobb and Carter Bell had eight points each and Cade Kiniry added six.

Joel Lewis (3) and Dylan Bryan (2) rounded out the scoring for Heritage, while head coach Mathon Culpepper praised Caden Snyder, Eli Pullen and Jacob Higgins for their defensive efforts in the win.

Heritage boys 45, Dade County 21

The Generals blew open a tight game early on by outscoring the Wolverines, 10-0, in the second quarter and 15-5 in the third this past Thursday.

Cobb led the way with nine points, followed by Snyder with eight, Bryan and Arias with seven, Kiniry and Bell with six and Nick Hanson with two.

Ringgold boys 35, Rossville 15

Brent Bowman and Colin Mountjoy had eight points apiece for the Tigers in their win last Tuesday, while Williams House added seven in the victory.

Lakeview boys 35, Gordon Lee 32

The Warriors trailed for the majority of the night last Tuesday and entered the fourth quarter down 30-25 to visiting Gordon Lee.

But the Red-and-White would hold the Trojans to just two points in the final seven minutes and pulled off a three-point comeback victory.

Dee Calhoun had 10 points for the Warriors in the win, followed by Cameron Gregg, Jacob Brown and Jevonni Womble with six apiece.

Jake Poindexter had 19 points and 10 rebounds for Gordon Lee, but the next-highest scorer for the Trojans was Cayden Powell with five points.

Ringgold boys 34, Lakeview 22

The Warriors led 11-4 early in the first quarter, but it was all downhill from there as the Tigers came roaring back to knock off their long-time rivals.

Ringgold cut the lead down to just two, 11-9, by the end of the first quarter and shutout the Warriors in the second period to take a 14-11 lead into the locker room. They would steadily add to the lead from there on their way to the win.

Mountjoy, McCain Mangum and Daniel Ford had eight points each for the Tigers.

Brown hit a pair of threes in the first quarter for Lakeview and finished with a game-high 11 points. Gregg had eight and Matt Daniel three for the Warriors.
