New Dollar General Store in Ringgold nearing completion

Residents in downtown Ringgold will soon have another shopping destination as the new Dollar General Store on Nashville Street is expected to open within the week.

The new store, located at 7449 Nashville St., is a little bigger than most locations, but not quite as big as the Dollar General Markets, which are more the size of your average grocery store.

The new store will be a welcomed addition to downtown Ringgold and has been built on a 1.85-acre piece of property that has sat vacant for nearly six years.

Catoosa County’s former Department of Family and Children’s Services building used to occupy the property before it was demolished following damage caused by a tornado that ravaged the city in April 2011.

Store employees further down the street on U.S. Highway 41 say the new store is essentially replacing the one next to Sonic.

“They’re closing this one, and we’re moving into the new one next week, one employee said Friday. “It’ll be the biggest one in our district.”

Store and city officials haven’t given an exact date for the opening, but Ringgold’s Main Street Director Rhonda Johnson says a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held to celebrate the store’s grand opening.
