Comedy basketball fundraiser to be held at Ringgold High School March 18

- By Adam Cook

Hoops and hijinks will take place at Ringgold High School on Saturday, March 18, when local challengers, the Ringgold Locomotives, take on the Harlem Ambassadors in a comedy basketballs show designed to entertain the whole family.

According to Ringgold Main Street Director Rhonda Johnson, the event is a fundraiser for the Ringgold Do wntown Development Authority (DDA).

“It’s going to be a lot of fun, and should be very entertaining,” Johnson said.

The Harlem Ambassadors’ show features high-flying slam dunks, dazzling ball-handling tricks, hilarious comedy, music, dancing, games with kids in the audience, and free autographs after the show.

The Harlem Ambassadors have performed more than 2,800 comedy basketball shows as fundraising and community entertainment events for non-profit organizations, the U.S. military and community service groups since 1998. These events have helped raise over $10 million for communities in 50 states and 20 countries. The Ambassadors have appeared at Pearl Harbor, Bosnia, Kosovo, Sarajevo, Korea, Japan, the Marshall Islands, Guam, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of Georgia, Mexico, Germany, England and Canada.

“We’re proud to give communities quality family entertainment that parents, grandparents and kids can enjoy together and make memories that last a lifetime,” Harlem Ambassadors president Dale Moss said. “Even people who aren’t basketball fans love our show because it’s two hours of fun and laughter for a great cause. Plus, where else can you see your neighbor, your co-worker, your granddaughter’s coach, or your son’s teacher play against professional athletes? This is an event you do not want to miss.”

The Ambassadors will play against the Ringgold Locomotives team comprised of local players.

“We have scoured the region for skilled – and sometimes unskilled – players to take on the powerful Ambassadors,” said DDA chairman Randall Franks. “What our team lacks in skill, they make up for in heart.”

On Wednesday, Feb. 22, kindergarten, first, and second grade students at Graysville Elementary School enjoyed a special visitor. To recognize Dental Health Month, Dr. Jason Webb from Webb Dentistry presented a fun and informative program for the students. Dr. Webb shared the importance of taking care of your teeth and offered ways to ensure good dental health for a lifetime. Students watched a skit about germs and brushing teeth, which made quite an impact on the students. Dr. Webb also provided toothbrushes for the students. Dr. Webb always does an excellent job informing the students creatively which impacts them in a positive way. Shown in the picture performing the skit (from left) are Dr. Jason Webb, helper Oliver Webb, Whitney Webb (tooth), and Donna Bates (the germ).
