Hickman wins individual title, LaFayette takes team title at Gordon Lee Boys’ Invitation­al

Gordon Lee’s Justin Hickman was the only golfer to break par on Saturday as he shot a 1-under par 70 to win top individual honors at the Gordon Lee Boys’ Invitation­al at Canyon Ridge Golf Club.

LaFayette took home the team title with a very solid round of 299 and a 17-stroke victory over runner-up Mt. Paran Christian (316).

Host Gordon Lee shot a 325 to take third. The rest of the field included Christian Heritage (326), Northwest Whitfield (341), Coahulla Creek (343), Calhoun (348), Dalton (350), Sonoravill­e (352), Southeast Whitfield (359), Bremen (361), Heritage (366) and Gilmer (379).

Matthew Redman had an 84 for the Generals, while Logan Self shot an 88. Patrick Redman finished with a 92 and Trevor Badacour capped the team total with a 102. Luke Bussey (113) and Sam Williams (119) also played for Heritage.

Generals ninth at NGI

Heritage shot a team score of 397 and placed ninth at the North Georgia Invitation­al at The Farm in Dalton last week.

Self had an 86 to pace the team.

Mill Creek won the event with a 297 as all six golfers shot in the 70’s. Harrison (304) was the runner-up, followed by Lambert (311) and Dalton (320).

Lady Generals seventh in Dalton

Woodward Academy of College Park turned in a team score of 258 on Saturday and won the Dalton Lady Cat Invitation­al at the Dalton Golf and Country Club.

Calhoun was second with a 260, followed by Dalton (263), Union County (265) and Bremen (271).

Gordon Lee was sixth overall at 276, while Heritage (293) was seventh. The rest of the field included Sequoyah (317), Gordon Central (321), Northwest Whitfield (332), Pickens (333), East Paulding (334) and Coahulla Creek (345).

For the Lady Generals, Brooke Barnes led the way with a 91, followed by a 99 from Caroline Bentley and a 103 from Carson Nixon. Katie Proctor shot a 110 for Heritage.

Dalton’s Katelyn Skiffin was the day’s low medalist with a 78, followed by Calhoun’s Katie Mashburn with a 79. Miranda Rich, the lone player from Ringgold to compete, tied for third with an 81.

Ringgold match cancelled

The scheduled match for the Tigers and Lady Tigers on Monday (March 20) at Spring Lakes has been cancelled due to course maintenanc­e. The Tigers and Lady Tigers are slated to play Tuesday against Adairsvill­e at Barnsley Gardens.

The March 13 match, which postponed by inclement weather, will be made up on April 10 at the LaFayette Golf Course and will now be a tri-match featuring Ringgold, Trion and Adairsvill­e.
