Heritage track team claims Catoosa Cup

The Heritage Generals are the Catoosa Cup winners after totaling 163.5 points on Thursday evening on their home track.

Ringgold finished second place with 108.5 points, while LFO was third with 58 points. Point totals for the boys’ and girls’ meets were combined.

In the girls’ events, Heritage’s Nyzaih Moore won the 100-meters in 13.53 seconds, followed by Lakeview’s Jerriale Jackson (13.78). Jackson’s teammate, Jazzmyn Elston, was third (14.07). Moore also took first in the 200, clocking in at 27.76. Jackson (28.56) was second for LFO, while Ringgold’s Zoey Butler (28.50) was third.

Gabby Ware of LFO raced to first in the 400 (1:08.66). Ateana Copeland took second for the Lady Warriors (1:09.31) with Morgan Allen of Ringgold (1:09.54) placing third. Heritage’s Alex Gass (2:44) was the winner in the 800, followed by Ringgold’s Lane Cates (2:45) and Ringgold’s Danielle Daniels (2:59).

Heritage’s Noor Sabeeh (6:13) was first in the 1600. Cates (6:17) finished second and Heritage’s Lilly Black (6:22) placed third. Sabeeh also won the 3200 in 13:18. Gass (13:28) was second and Lakeview’s Lucy Linn (17:44) finished third.

Ringgold’s Annabelle Duckett (17.37) placed first in the 100-meter hurdles, just edging out Heritage’s Kailyn McLaughlin (17.60) for the win. Ringgold’s Andrea Ellis (18.03) finished in third place. In the 300-meter hurdles, McLaughlin turned the tables by running a 52.59 to place first ahead of Duckett (53.71). Heritage’s Meliah Postell (55.68) took third.

The 4x100 meter relay resulted in Heritage’s “A” team (51.87) finishing in first place. Lakeview was second (time unavailabl­e) and Ringgold “A” (54.50) finished in third. The Lady Warriors claimed first place in the 4x400 relay (time unavailabl­e), followed by Ringgold “A” (4:55) and Heritage “A” (5:03).

In the field events, Heritage throwing specialist Raleigh Lewis won the shot put with a mark of (34-7 1/4), easily outdistanc­ing Lakeview’s Kaliah Allen (25-10 1/2) and Heritage’s Joy Clark (24-11) for the top spot. Lewis also took first in the discus (118-3) by over 36 feet over teammate Mariah McCrary (82-0). Anna Rountree of Lakeview (69-0) was third.

The long jump was won by Jackson of Lakeview at 17-6, followed by Butler (1511 1/4) and Elston (150) in third. Allen and Duckett tied for high jump honors for at 4-4 with Caroline Coffey (4-0) placing third, while McCrary (27-7) won the triple jump. Ringgold’s Brianna Donley (25-10) finished second and Ringgold’s Shelby Peters (25-9 1/2) took third. No points were scored in the pole vault as no competitor managed to clear the starting height of 6-feet.

On the boys’ side, Ringgold took first in the 100 as Jordan Preston motored to first place in a time of 11.81. Heritage’s Kyle Jones (11.89) was second, while Lakeview’s Austin Willingham (12.21) placed third. Heritage’s Alex Lacy took the 200 in 23.50. Jones (21.31) finished second and Preston (24.64) placed third.

In the 400, Ringgold’s Pete Brower (53.52) finished in first place, beating out Ringgold’s Bryton McCann (54.40) and Heritage’s Wes Lozano (55.90). Zack Locke of Heritage earned first-place points in the 800, clocking in a 2:19. Ringgold’s Nicholas Parker (2:21) was second and LFO’s Nathan Goodale (2:22) finished in third.

Heritage’s Jerryd Tennyson ruled the distance events. Tennyson ran a 5:05 to take first in the 1600, followed in the top three by teammate Caleb Boyd (5:18) and Ringgold’s James Basham (5:46). Tennyson also won the 3200, finishing in 10:55 to beat out Boyd (5:18) and Basham (12:04) once again.

Ringgold’s Jared Dunn (16.94) took first in the 110 hurdles, while Lacy (18.81) and Heritage’s Jack Showalter (19.00) finished second and third, respective­ly. Dunn also won the 300 hurdles in 47 seconds flat, followed by a pair of Generals in Ryan Carter (47.53) and Tyler Tomey (49.56).

In the relay events, Ringgold’s “A” team (44.31) placed first in the 4x100, followed by Heritage’s “A” team (44.24) and LFO’s “A” team (time unavailabl­e). Ringgold “A” clocked in at 3:41 to win the 4x400, followed by Heritage “A” (3:56) and LFO “A” (time unavailabl­e).

Heritage’s Lavarius Hood (44-11) finished in first in the shot put. Lakeview’s Nick Culpepper (41-5 1/2) was second and Heritage’s Zack Scott (37-9) placed third. Hood also won the discus with a throw of 125-5. Teammate Matthew Heaps (1205) was second, while Lakeview’s Lee McCracken (109-6) placed third.

The long jump ended with Ringgold’s Dee King (19-7) taking first place. Carter was second for Heritage (19-4) and Lacy (18-4 1/2) was third. Dunn and Devontae Kimble gave Ringgold a tie for first in the high jump at 5-6, while Heritage’s Cameron Evans (5-4) was third. Carter (39-9) was first in the triple jump, finishing ahead of Brower (36-8 1/4) and Ringgold’s Joey Collins (34-2).

And in the pole vault, Lozano cleared 10-6 to take the top spot. Heritage’s Maddox Rose, the only other competitor, placed second (8-0).
