Middle School Baseball: Warriors pick up two victories

The Lakeview Middle School Warriors continued a magical season as they thoroughly dominated the Chattanoog­a Valley Eagles last Monday.

With the Warriors moved to 9-0 overall and 7-0 in league play with a 7-0 win in Flintstone. Lakeview is in search of an unblemishe­d record, a feat that hasn’t been accomplish­ed since 2006.

Belmin Kojic led his team with two goals, while Jaden Khouaneras­a, Alan Smajlovic, Jalen Glover, Stiven Galicia and Jacob Sloan all had one goal.

Lakeview head coach Traye Carpenter said the team was playing like a ball of fury.

“The boys came out with pure fury and on-point passing,” he said. “They totally dominated ball possession and scoring.”

Although scoring goals is highly important, they wouldn’t happen without the players who work their tails off to put those scorers in position. Cooper Kirk assisted four times and Al Hastic and Mckenzy Kimball assisted one time each.

The shutout was aided by defensive standouts Jorge Arelleno and Enis Keserevic.

The Lady Warriors tied the Lady Eagles, 2-2, putting Lakeview’s girls at 5-1-1 on the year.

Lakeview was able to get off to a fast start thanks to Sydnee Brown, who scored both goals. Assists were registered by Emma Leverrett and Astrid Cantrell, while Bailey Sullivan was a defensive standout.

Carpenter said his girls’ team grew tired as the second half continued.

Sydney Coats and Ria Cox scored goals for the Lady Eagles.

Heritage teams shut out LaFayette

Bradley Cass found the net twice and the Generals made a return trip from LaFayette sporting a 4-0 NGAC victory last Monday.

Stephen Scott also scored for the Navy-and-Red, who led 2-0 at halftime. Heritage’s initial tally of the game came on a dreaded “own goal” by the Ramblers.

In the girls’ match, Bailey Needham knocked home two goals as the Lady Generals improved to 11-0 with a 5-0 shutout of the Lady Ramblers.

Allison Craft scored once and collected an assist. Madison Nix scored once, as did Zandy Burton, who found the net on a header from a corner kick. Emma Tennyson also recorded an assist for Heritage as Jordan Leonard and Abby Scott teamed up for the clean sheet in goal.

The Lady Generals were scheduled to host Saddle Ridge on Monday, April 17 in a make-up of a match that was postponed by weather earlier this season. But due to newspaper deadlines, results were not available as of press time.

Ringgold blanks Dade County

The Tigers were able to post a 5-0 victory over Dade County last Monday.

Jason Constant scored the game’s first goal on the Wolverines’ home turf, which was followed up with a Liam Lehmann goal. Lehmann finished with two goals on the day, while Gabe Garverick and Easton Wade each scored once.

Garverick, Ayden Roland and Alex Palmer were all credited with assists.

“The boys played well together and showed great sportsmans­hip,” Ringgold head coach Jonathon Fincher said.

The Lady Tigers won their game by an 8-0 count.

Joanna Medlin scored four goals and assisted on another. Maggie Reed had a goal and two assists, while Sophie Reed scored once and added an assist. Makenna Mercer and Riley Poe each found the net once, while Grace Raby had two assists. Down 4-1 in the first

The Lakeview Warriors walloped longtime rival Rossville, 17-1, last Tuesday.

Malachi Powell was the winning pitcher in the road contest, but the victory was never in doubt as four Warriors had at least two hits, including three by Josh McAfee and two each by Devan Hinton, Julian Waters and Aaron Millsaps.

Aiden Raymer and Kalup Palmer had the only hits for Rossville (2-6).

Lakeview 9, Dade County 8

The Warriors slipped past the Wolverines for a win on Thursday to improve to 7-4 overall.

McAfee’s sacrifice fly turned out to the gamewinner. McAfee finished with two hits and two RBIs on the day, while also picking p the win on the mound.

Powell, Matt Daniel and Hayden Wolfe each doubled in the win.

Details on Monday’s game against Christian Heritage were not available as of press time.

Heritage 15, Saddle Ridge 0

The Mustangs weren’t able to get off the schneid as the Generals put the hammer down in a game played at LaFayette High School last Tuesday.

Nick Hanson picked up the no-hitter and helped himself at the plate with two doubles and two RBIs.

The 15 runs came on 15 hits. Alex Mixon went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Preston Etter was a perfect 4-for-4 on the day with two RBIs and Jake Cobb was also perfect, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs.

The Saddle Ridge pitchers gave up 11 earned runs.
