- By Scott Herpst

In a meet that saw Chattanooga Valley and Heritage exchange the lead seven times in 12 events, the home team was able to pull out a win by just one halfpoint in a four-team NGAC league meet at Heritage last Tuesday.

The Lady Generals won four events and finished with 70.5 points, edging out the Lady Eagles (70 points) on the very last race of the day. Gordon Lee (41.5) was third and Lakeview (3) was a distant fourth.

Chattanooga Valley led 68-64.5 going into the final event of the night, the 4x400 relay. But the Lady Generals “A” team would win in a time of 4:47.71 to earn six points. Gordon Lee “A” took second and three points, while the two points the Lady Eagles got for third place was not enough to hold on to the lead.

Kaylan Davis won both the long jump (1310) and the 800 (2:48.95) for Heritage, while Sydnee St. John took first in the high jump (4-8).

The boys’ match did not have nearly as much drama as the Trojans won eight of 12 events as they cruised to the victory with 88.5 points.

Heritage won three events and finished with 62.5 points. Chattanooga Valley won once and collected 29 points, while Lakeview rounded out the scoring with four points.

Heritage’s wins were turned in by Jonathan Washburn in the shot put (36-0, Eli Owens in the high jump (5-4) and Zack Brown in the discus (102-0).
