Golf: Dalton girls win Heritage Girls’ Invitational

- By Robert Magobet

A team score of 299 wasn’t good enough for the host team to win the Heritage Lady General Invitational at the Nob North Golf Course last Tuesday.

The Dalton Lady Catamounts, led by low medalist Katelynn Skiffen’s 77, won the tournament with a 246. Calhoun (257) finished as tournament runner-up as they got an 80 from Kate Mashburn. Gordon Lee (271) was third, followed by Heritage.

LaFayette (305) was fifth, while Northwest Whitfield (312), Cartersville (327), Gordon Central (343) and Gilmer (345) rounded out the team scores.

Brooke Barnes was the low scorer for the Lady Generals with a 95, followed by Caroline Bentley’s 100 and Carson Nixon’s 104. Also playing for Heritage were Katie Proctor (109) and Traevin Penland (111).

Gordon Lee claims Five-Star Invitational

Justin Hickman carded a 73 and Tucker Windham added a 76 to help lead the Trojans to a three-shot victory in the Heritage boys’ Five-Star Invitational at Nob North this past Thursday.

Gordon Lee edged out Northwest Whitfield (313) for the title, while the LaFayette junior varsity squad shot a 325 to place third.

Christian Heritage (329) was fourth, followed by Southeast Whitfield (332), Cartersville (350) and Heritage (356).

Logan Self had a 79 for the Generals, followed by Patrick Redman (89), Matthew Redman (90) and Trevor Badacour (98). Sam Williams (113) and Luke Bussey (119) also teed it up for the host school.

Southeast’s Matthew Cleary took low medalist honors. Cleary shot a 73 and beat Hickman in a scorecard playoff.

Dalton edges Ringgold at Windstone

Gavin Noble shot a 35 on Thursday—including a 15foot birdie on his last hole— helping the Ringgold Tigers to a team score of 175 in nine holes at Windstone.

Harrison Haupt added a 45 for the Blue-and-White, followed by a 47 from Jerin Morgan and a 48 from Luke Harvey.

Dalton was three strokes better at 172, getting a 41 from Miller Lovingood, a 43 from Jackson Simmons and a 44 from both Christian Lama and Alex Kerr.

Ringgold was slated to play both North Murray and Coahulla Creek on Monday at Indian Trace, but due to newspaper deadlines, results were not available as of press time.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers are also scheduled to play at Windstone on Thursday against Calhoun.

The Class AAA Area Tournament will be at Field’s Ferry in Calhoun on May 4.
