Family Crisis Center to hold “Empower U” event June 8

The Family Crisis Center of Catoosa, Walker, Dade, and Chattooga Counties will hold an “Empower U” event at Heritage High School on Thursday, June 8.

The Family Crisis Center, which provides shelter and amenities for women and children suffering from domestic violence, is holding the event to encourage and empower local women.

“We wanted to do a free event for ladies in our community to help empower them and provide some encouragement whether they are dealing with domestic violence, grieving the loss of a loved one, or just dealing with everyday problems,” said Center director Kristy Lawson.

The event will include three speakers, and will offer childcare and refreshments.

“We will have a domestic violence victim speaking and two counselors will be speaking on empowerment,” Lawson said. “There will be goody bags for everyone attending and door prizes. We would like to thank Ringgold Telephone Company for being our corporate sponsor.”

The event is a way of continuing the Center’s outreach to women in the community.

“The mission of this is to help bring the community together and provide support, encouragement, education, and resources for those in need,” Lawson said.

In addition to providing emergency shelter to women and children in the community, the Center can house up to 24 women and children at a time, offers a 24-hour crisis line for information and support, and assisting with helping women acquire temporary protective orders.

The event will be held at 7 p.m. in the Heritage High School cafeteria located at 3960 Poplar Springs Road in Ringgold.
