Meet Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School Georgia Scholar Meghan Trusley
Meghan Trusley graduated from Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School this year and was one of four students from area schools and one of 183 students statewide to earn recognition as a Georgia Scholar for her outstanding performance in school and within her community. Here’s our interview with Meghan.
Tell us about your academic accomplishments.
I have maintained a 4.0 grade point average all four years of high school and obtained a 31 out of 36 on the first try of my ACT. I am one of the seven people in my class who received a gold cord for having all A’s all four years.
What extracurricular activities did you participate in?
I have participated in the LFO Marching Band all four years of high school. I was an officer and librarian for three years.
Community service is a requirement to earn Georgia Scholar. How have you served your community?
Throughout my four years of high school, I participated in over 260 hours of community service with my school and majorly with the Salvation Army.
What are your future plans?
I plan to attend the University of Georgia in the fall and major in Anthropology. With this major, I plan to eventually work for the FBI or a state bureau as a Criminal Profiler.
What are some things you’re especially proud of accomplishing or doing?
I am so proud of my early acceptance to the University of Georgia. I worked so hard to get into college and I gained acceptance to five colleges: University of Georgia (where I will be attending in the fall), University of Tennessee, University of Kentucky, Berry College, and Jacksonville State University.
Who is someone who has had a strong influence on your life?
My biggest influence has been my youth group at Liberty Baptist Church. These people have become such a support in my life and have shown me how loving God is and how an intimate relationship with Jesus is supposed to look.
What is some advice you would give to your future self?
My advice to my future self would be to relax and don’t miss out on the fun. Be involved and enjoy time with your friends. Don’t stay in your room studying all the time; live your life! It’s okay to take a break sometimes. Don’t stress over unnecessary things, God’s got this.
What is something you would do differently if you had high school to do over again?
If I could go back and do things differently, I would put in a little more effort my Freshman and Sophomore years, just as I did my Junior and Senior years. Other than that, I wouldn’t change anything because I am extremely proud of my accomplishments thus far.
Do you have a bucket list? What are some things you’d like to do before you grow old?
I don’t have a written out bucket list, but there are a few things I wish to do before I get old. I want to travel the world, especially Europe. I want to get married and have a family and visit Disney World very frequently.
