Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park hosting summer camp

-

Children in grades 4 – 6 are invited to participate in Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park’s seventh annual summer camp entitled “A Call to Arms: Preserving our Past.”

This year the park will conduct one camp, held July 18 – 21 (Tuesday through Friday). The camp will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. daily. Participants will begin and end each day at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center.

Lunch is not included, so campers should make arrangements for lunch after being released.

As a reminder, the majority of the camp is held outdoors, so please plan accordingly.

Campers will have opportunities to participate in many of the same activities soldiers engaged in during the Civil War and learn about the struggles they endure.

They will also take part in other activities focused on the park’s varied history, from American Indians to present day, and they will learn the importance of battlefield preservation by participating in preservation efforts within the park.

Camp participation is limited, so be sure to register as soon as possible.

The registration deadline for camp is July 14, 2017. Please contact Park Ranger Chris Young at 423752-5213 x117 for further information. Camp registration and photo release forms can be picked up at Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center or at Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center. Printable registration forms, an e-registration form, and photo release forms are available at http:// www.nps.gov/chch/learn/ kidsyouth/index.htm.
