Heritage, LFO meet in early-season court clash

The LFO Lady Warriors got off to a good start for the 2017 volleyball season with a win over Dade County in Tunnel Hill last Tuesday night, but the Red-and-White would lose to host Northwest Whitfield in the nightcap.

LFO picked up a 25-13, 25-12 victory over the Lady Wolverines. Madi Graham had 10 aces and five assists in the win. Macey Gregg had picked up six digs, four kills and two blocks, while Miyah Foster recorded five digs and four assists.

The Lady Bruins, one of the favorites in Region 6-AAAA, turned out to be too much for LFO in the second match as Northwest won in straight sets, 25-10, 25-8.

Gregg had 10 digs, two kills and an ace in the loss. Jerriale Jackson finished with 10 digs and one ace, while Alesya McBurnett added nine digs and one ace.

Heritage wins twice at LFO

The Heritage Lady Generals opened the 2017 volleyball season on the road in nearby Fort Oglethorpe this past Thursday night and picked up wins against Chattooga and host LFO.

Heritage scored a 25-21, 25-13 victory over the Lady Indians before beating the Lady Warriors, 25-20 and 25-17.

Kali Brown had eight kills and four aces for Lady Generals. Macie Stephens finished with seven kills and six aces, while Macy Harris had six kills, six digs and three aces. Ariana Camp recorded six kills as well.

Other contributo­rs on the night included Ashley Clinton (22 assists, 5 digs, 3 aces), Maggie Britton (11 assists, 6 aces, 5 digs) and Annie Britton (13 digs, 2 aces).

Jackson had four service points, three assists, two aces, two blocks and a kill for LFO versus Heritage. Symerel Bennett had six service points, five blocks and a kill. Foster finished with three kills and two assists, while Gregg had an ace, a kill and a block.

In the night’s first match, Chattooga outlasted LFO, 25-15, 21-25 and 26-24.

Gregg had four kills and five digs in the loss. Foster finished with two kills and two assists, while McBurnett recorded two aces, a kill and an assist.

Heritage (2-0) will join Cedartown on Tuesday for a tri-match at Coosa and they will host Christian Heritage on Thursday. The action begins at 5 p.m. both days.

LFO (1-3) will have a busy week, starting on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. tri-match at Gordon Lee that will also include LaFayette.

On Thursday, they will join Cass for a tri-match at Model at 5 p.m. and they will host the LFO Invitation­al on Saturday, starting at 8 a.m.
