Ringgold still looking for ryhthm Heritage at .500 after first week

After striking for nine runs in the first game of the season against Sonoravill­e, the bats have cooled off somewhat for the Ringgold Lady Tigers, who managed just one victory in six tries this past week.

Heritage 7, Ringgold 4

Last Monday, the Lady Tigers saw a potential comeback chance snuffed out by rain, which led umpires to stop the non-region game in the sixth inning, reverting the score back to the end of the fifth.

Heritage scored in every inning, but Ringgold refused to fold. Gillian Little’s third RBI of the game came on a fifth-inning single and Shelby Cole later scored on a Heritage error to cut into the deficit.

Kaylee Womack was 1-for-1 for the Lady Tigers, while Kaylee Phillips fell to 1-1 in the circle with the loss.

Calhoun 7, Ringgold 4

The visiting Lady Jackets broke open a 2-2 tie with five runs in the top of the seventh inning this past Thursday and dropped Ringgold to 1-1 in Region 6-AAA.

Riley Nayadley was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Womack and Little each had two hits, while Womack and Jade Gainer recorded one RBI apiece. Phillips

The first full week of the 2017 regular season didn’t go exactly as planned for the Heritage Generals. A season-opening win over Ringgold was tempered by two straight region losses and a 3-2 record at the Dalton Lady Cat Invitation­al over the weekend.

Heritage 7, Ringgold 4

Madi Morris doubled and scored in the top of the third inning and launched a three-run shot over the wall in left-center an inning later to help her team to a rain-shortened victory at Ringgold last Monday.

Morris also pitched and got the win. She hit a two-run blast in the sixth, but the dinger was erased from the books as they sixth inning was not completed when the umpires finally stopped the game.

Ansley Bice was 2-for-3 with a triple and scored twice. Katie Proctor had an RBI with a sacrifice fly, while Morris was 3-for-3 with seven total bases, three runs scored and four RBIs. She also allowed just three earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts in the circle.

Northwest 11, Heritage 7

The Lady Bruins scored four times in the top of the seventh last Tuesday to break a tie and claim a win at Heritage in the Region 6-AAAA opener for both squads.

Heritage led 4-2 after one inning, but found itself trailing 7-4 after Northwest scored once in the second and four times in the third. The Lady Generals would respond with two runs in the bottom of the third before adding one in the fourth to tie the game.

Reagan Armour was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Bice and Bailey Christol each had two hits and scored a run, while Ashley Faulkenber­ry was 2-for-3.

Ridgeland 13, Heritage 5

The Lady Generals fell to 0-2 in region play as they lost to the Lady Panthers in six innings this past Thursday. Heritage hurt itself with

a pair of errors, while two pitchers combined to surrender 12 walks.

Proctor went 4-for4 with three RBIs, including a two-run homer. Morris also went yard with a solo shot in the top of the first, while Bice singled and scored. Taelyn Bates went 2-for3 with a run scored. Rachel Gibson took the loss, giving up nine runs - seven earned - in four innings in the circle.

Heritage 8, Dalton 3

Facing the host team in Friday afternoon’s opener at Heritage Point Park, Morris belted her third home run of the season as part of a 3-for-3 performanc­e. The senior scored twice and drove in two runs. Armour was 2-for-3 with a run and three RBIs, while Kaylie Frogge had two hits and an RBI.

Bates got the win, throwing five innings in a time-limit shortened

game. She allowed four hits and just one earned run, while fanning three.

Heritage 21, Shaw 6

Morris was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored in Friday night’s pasting of the Lady Raiders from the Columbus area.

Proctor hit her second homer in as many nights. She walked three times, scored three times and knocked in pair of runs. Bice was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

The Lady Generals played three more tournament games on Saturday, losing to Calhoun (6-4) and Chattahooc­hee (9-8), but finishing up with a 3-1 win over Sonoravill­e.

Individual details and statistics were not provided as of press time.

Heritage (4-4) will get back into Region 6-AAAA play on Tuesday at Gilmer (5:55 p.m.).
