Lady Tro­jans en­joy 7-0 week, tour­na­ment ti­tle

The Gor­don Lee Lady Tro­jans, ranked eighth in the lat­est Class A state poll, faced off with long­time ri­val Dar­ling­ton in Rome last Tues­day night in a be­stof-three area match.

And when the dust had fi­nally set­tled, it was the Navy-and­White se­cur­ing a hard­fought 25-23, 25-23, 25-20 vic­tory.

Gra­cie O’Neal had 12 digs and four kills for Gor­don Lee (2-1 in area play). Sum­mer Fitz­patrick col­lected six kill, six digs and four aces, while Aubree Yancey paced the of­fense with 14 kills.

Gor­don Lee de­feats Ridge­land

The Lady Tro­jans con­tin­ued their sea­son this past Thurs­day by sweep­ing the Lady Pan­thers, 25-18 and 2514, in Rossville.

O’Neal had a solid all-around game with seven digs, five kills and two aces for the Lady Tro­jans. Yancey added seven kills and three blocks, while Mal­lory Col­lier recorded 14 as­sists.

Sarah Wil­liams had three kills and four digs for Ridge­land, while se­niors Rachel Atch­ley and Abbi Witherow had 10 digs each.

Gor­don Lee wins Coahulla Creek tour­na­ment

The Lady Tro­jans, al­ready with a Gold Di­vi­sion ti­tle at the LFO In­vi­ta­tional ear­lier this sea­son, made it 2-for-2 in tour­na­ment cham­pi­onships on Satur­day as they went 5-0 to win the Gold Di­vi­sion of the Vol­ley at the Creek tour­na­ment at Coahulla Creek High School.

The Navy-and-White went 3-0 in pool play, dis­patch­ing Dal­ton (2515, 25-17), Ridge­land (25-13, 25-21) and Sono­rav­ille (25-19, 2512).

In the semifinals, the Lady Tro­jans got a tough bat­tle from Ring­gold be­fore fi­nally com­ing from be­hind to win in three sets.

Gor­don Lee eas­ily won the open­ing set, 2514, but Ring­gold fought back to even things up with a 25-23 win in the sec­ond set. In the third set tiebreaker, the Lady Tigers led 10-3 in the race to 15, but Fitz­patrick went to the line to serve for Gor­don Lee and reeled off a dozen straight points, four com­ing on aces, to clinch the win.

The Lady Tro­jans (20-8) drew Fan­nin County in the fi­nals. The Lady Rebels came in as the top-ranked team in Class AAA, but they proved to be no match for Gor­don Lee, who coasted to a 25-18, 25-12 vic­tory to win the cham­pi­onship.

Yancey had 28 kills and 13 blocks on the day, fol­lowed by Fitz­patrick and De­laney Bridges with 27 kills each. O’Neal col­lected 26 kills to go with 35 digs and Col­lier had 77 to­tal as­sists.

Ridge­land went on to win the Sil­ver Di­vi­sion ti­tle at Coahulla Creek. The Lady Pan­thers were also the Sil­ver Di­vi­sion win­ners at the LFO In­vi­ta­tional.

Scores and de­tails from Satur­day were not pro­vided as of press time.
