Gor­don Lee stays un­beaten in 6-A

Se­nior Canaan Bur­nett had a double, a home run, drove in four runs and struck out 11 bat­ters in six in­nings as Gor­don Lee han­dled Chris­tian Her­itage, 10-2, in a Re­gion 6-A con­test be­tween state-ranked teams last Wed­nes­day night in Chicka­mauga.

The Lady Tro­jans, who dropped from No. 3 to No. 10 in the ScoreAt­lanta Class A Public School poll this past week, de­spite not hav­ing played a game since Aug. 29, struck for two runs in the bot­tom of the sec­ond against the Lady Li­ons, who came in No. 8 in the Class A Private School polls.

Pax­ton Grimes tripled to right field and trot­ted home on Bur­nett’s two-run bomb to right-cen­ter one bat­ter later. Gor­don Lee plated two more in the third as Bur­nett came through with an RBI­dou­ble.

Chris­tian Her­itage would get two of the runs back off Bur­nett in the top of the fourth and the score would re­main 4-2 go­ing into the bot­tom of the sixth when the wheels fell off for the vis­i­tors from Dal­ton.

Two straight er­rors led to a run and Kir­bie Bradley knocked in a run with a hit to left. Se­nior Faith Alexan­der, mak­ing her sea­son de­but af­ter off-sea­son shoul­der surgery, later ripped a two-run sin­gle and Rea­gan Thomp­son fol­lowed suit with an RBI-hit of her own.

Chris­tian Her­itage in­ten­tion­ally walked Gracey Kruse to load the bases, but Grimes would draw a free pass to bring in the 10th run and end the game.

Alexan­der, who did not play in the field, was 2-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored from her usual lead­off spot in the or­der. Bur­nett al­lowed just four hits in six in­nings to get the vic­tory in the cir­cle.

Gor­don Lee 6, Dar­ling­ton 3

A four-run sev­enth in­ning pro­vided the Lady Tro­jans the cush­ion they needed as they dou­bled up Dar­ling­ton this past Thurs­day night in Rome.

The Lady Tigers took a 1-0 lead af­ter two in­nings, but Gor­don Lee would tie the game with a solo run in the top of the third be­fore adding the go-ahead run in the top of the fourth.

Grimes de­liv­ered the big blow for the Navy-and-White in the sev­enth with a three­run homer. Dar­ling­ton would score their final two runs in their final at-bat.

Fresh­man Emma Mingh­ini picked up the vic­tory in the cir­cle, giv­ing up five hits and strik­ing out five in seven in­nings. She also helped her­self by go­ing 2-for-3 with a double.

Kruse and Bur­nett each had two hits, while Kruse drove in a run.

Gor­don Lee 9, Chapel Hill 0

Bur­nett al­lowed just one hit, one walk and struck out four as the Lady Tro­jans claimed a five-in­ning win on Fri­day at a tour­na­ment in Car­roll­ton.

Alexan­der, Kruse and Bur­nett all had two hits. Alexan­der and Bur­nett had two RBIs each, while Mingh­ini, Mad­die Clark, Ma­cie Pear­son and Katherine Grace McEl­haney each knocked in a run.

Gor­don Lee 5, South Pauld­ing 4

The Lady Tro­jans scored four runs in the top of the first in­ning Satur­day morn­ing and pushed across the goa­head run in the top of the fifth for an­other five-in­ning, time limit vic­tory.

Gor­don Lee had just four hits. Bur­nett made hers count with three RBIs as she launched her sec­ond homer of the week. Grimes also drove in a run and the Lady Tro­jans fin­ished with five stolen bases.

Bur­nett and Janie Durham com­bined to allow three hits and record seven strike­outs. Durham got the win in re­lief.

New­nan 5, Gor­don Lee 2

The Lady Tro­jans (10-2, 3-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Class AAAAAAA’s No. 2-ranked team on Satur­day af­ter­noon, but gave up three in the bot­tom of the first and two runs an in­ning later.
