Family Crisis Center to hold Tea & Trends event for October’s Domestic Violence Month

The Family Crisis Center will hold its fourth annual Tea & Trends luncheon as part of October’s Domestic Violence Month.

The center serves Walker, Catoosa, Chattooga and Dade counties.

The event will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, at noon at The Walker County Civic Center.

“This is not only a fundraiser for The Family Crisis Center but more importantly we just want to educate how domestic violence affects our community,” said Kristy Lawson, the center’s director. “This event has been a great success each year with over 200 women in attendance.”

The event will include a lunch catered by LaFamilia Mexican Restaurant of Rossville.

A fashion show will feature The Rustic Key and Field Stone Farms in Rock Spring, Tootsies Red Bird Boutique on Battlefield Parkway in Fort Oglethorpe, as well as The Family Crisis Center’s own Attic Treasures Family Thrift Store.

“We will also have lots of silent auction items and door prizes,” Lawson said.

Table sponsorship prices include a $200 sponsorship that includes eight seats, table recognition and social media spotlight. Individual seat sponsorships are $30.

Planned speakers include Dr. Susan Rogers, who has an undergraduate degree from Mercer University, a graduate degree in clinical counseling from The University of Georgia, and studied psychoanalytical theory at Harvard.

She holds a doctorate in mental health from the International University for Graduate Studies in the Social Sciences. Rogers has been working with domestic violence victims at The Family Crisis Center for the past 10 years.

Paulina Martinez Diaz will also be on hand to speak. Diaz, a Catoosa County native, owns and operates her family business LaFamilia Mexican Restaurant. She will be speaking on her personal experience with domestic violence.
