Cayman Islands were just a couple of her favorite places to visit. She loved singing gospel music and spending time with her family & friends is what brought joy to her heart. She was employed with Chick-Fil-A for more than 10 years and also worked at Park Place Restaurant for more than 11 years. She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmothe­r and great grandmothe­r who will be truly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Garner and son, Timothy Scott Hampton.

Survivors include her loving husband of more than 41 years, Charles Silvers of Rossville, GA; father, Earl Vogel Garner of Ringgold, GA; two children, Tina Lynn Hampton of Chattanoog­a, TN and Charles Edward Silvers, Jr. of Rossville, GA; brother & sister-inlaw, Randy & Cindy Ball of Ringgold, GA; 3 grandchild­ren, Britney Thomas, Chris Thomas and T.J. Hampton; great granddaugh­ter, Emma Downey and numerous extended family & friends.

Visitation: Saturday, October 21, 2017 from noon til 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

George W. Merciers, 77, Chattanoog­a, Tenn.

George W. Merciers, 77, of Chattanoog­a, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 in a local hospital.

He was born on January 1, 1940 in Chattanoog­a to the late Harold and Mamie Merciers and was a graduate of Rossville High School. Mr. Merciers served his country having served in the U.S. Air Force for three years and retiring from the U.S. Navy following twenty years of service. He pursued a career as a multi-craft industrial maintenanc­e technician and retired from the Mueller Corporatio­n after twenty years of employment. Mr. Merciers was a member and Past-Master of the Lookout Valley Masonic Lodge #673 F&AM, attended the New Haven Church of God in Chickamaug­a, enjoyed bowling, golfing, and talking to everyone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of thirty years, Melva Jane Merciers, and four brothers.

Survivors include his sons, Eric (Lynn) Merciers of Elizabetht­own, KY, Andy (Pam) Merciers of Chattanoog­a, and Sam (Meghan) Merciers of Florence, AL; step-sons, Mark (Missi)Mc Clung and David (Vanessa) McClung; sister, Vannie Sue Johnson; five grandchild­ren, seven great-grandchild­ren, several nieces & nephews.

Marion Jefferson “Jeff” Brown, age 83, of Chickamaug­a passed away Friday, October 13, 2017.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a long time farmer in the Cedar Grove Community.

Jeff was preceded in death by his son, Robert Bruce Brown; sisters, Virginia Minter and Martha Fields; brother, Jim Brown; parents, Henry and Madge Blaylock Brown; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Brown.

Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Susie (Andy) Hames; sons and daughter-in-law, Jeff Brown, and Ben (Renee) Brown; brothers, Walter Brown, Burton Brown, Joe Brown, and Bob Brown; grandchild­ren, Jeremy (Crystal) Garrett, Megan Brown, and Emily Brown; great grandchild­ren, Savannah Garrett, Holly Garrett, Sydney Garrett and Valerie Hames; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside service: Sunday, October 15th at 2 pm in Old Antioch Cemetery with Pastor Glen Roberts officiatin­g.

Debbie Hendrix Thornton, 58, Lakeland, Fla.

Debbie Hendrix Thornton, age 58, of Lakeland, Florida (formerly of LaFayette) passed away Monday, October 16, 2017.

Prior to her move to Florida, she was a member of the Community Baptist Church on Lee Mason Road. Debbie had a passion for music and a love of helping others and was active in many outreach ministries throughout her life.

She is survived by her husband, Robert “Shot” Thornton; daughter, Renee (David) Griffin of LaFayette; sons, Robert Thornton and Jamie Thornton both of LaFayette; grandchild­ren, Nicholas, Olivia, Jazmyn, Abigail, Georgia, Morgan, and Megan; mother, Nelva Allmon of Lakeland, Fla.; sisters, Sherri Dampier and Vicki Foreman both of Lakeland, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial service: 4 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2017 in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel.

Barbara Ray McDaniel, 89, Ringgold, Ga.

Barbara Ray McDaniel age 89, of Ringgold, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2017.

She was a member of Clearview Baptist Church and the Senior Citizens Sunshine Club.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Cassie Elliott; husband, E.S. “Shirley” McDaniel; brothers, J.T. and Junior Elliott.

She is survived by her children, Linda Watkins, Jerry (Carolyn) McDaniel, Deborah (Jack) White, Thomas (Karin) McDaniel; sister, Wanda Yates; brother, Ken (Brenda) Elliott; 9 grandchild­ren; 14 greatgrand­children; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Samuel Wesley Ott Jr., 84, Jasper

Samuel Wesley Ott Jr., 84, of Jasper, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 19, 2017.

Mr. Ott was born on August 16, 1933 and resided in the Lookout Valley and Jasper area for several years. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church in Lookout Valley and the Lookout Valley Lodge # 673 and Temple Lodge #430 F&AM. He previously worked at Combustion Engineerin­g and retired as an inspector from the State of Tennessee.

He is preceded in death by his wife Christine Ott, parents Samuel and Florence Ott and two brothers J. W. Ott and Larry Ott.

Survivors include, sons Mike Ott, Randy (Sherry) Ott, Bradley Ott (Traci), daughters Tina (John) Rogers, Lorna Croft, step son Kenneth (Jeannie) Smith Jr., step daughters Ann (Stan) Dickert and Jane Merritt, several grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren.

Funeral services: 1:00 PM on Sunday, October 22, 2017 in the South Crest Chapel with Reverend Dylan Knox officiatin­g.

Martha Ann Wampler Abbott, 1941-2017

Martha Ann Abbott was born on May 10, 1941, to Roy and Hazel Wampler. She was the first of two children.

Martha Ann felt a calling into Christian education. She attended Hiwassee College for two years, then two years in Scarritt, where she met Ron Abbott, whom she would eventually marry.

Martha was a dedicated spouse and served in the churches, through Sunday school, women’s ministries, and choir, as Ron served the Methodist church in ministry for 41.75 years, serving 4 appointmen­ts in the Tennessee Conference and 5 in the Holston Conference. Martha was very active with the churches, even during the years where she dedicatedl­y cared for her son, David, who had cerebral palsy.

After David, as an adult, moved into a home where he could receive necessary care, Martha began work at Pathway Bible Book Store, then Precept Ministries, where she served for several years in a number of different positions.

Shortly after Ron was forced to retire due to his muscular dystrophy, Martha retired in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, and stayed actively in contact with her many friends from different churches. David passed away in 2007 and Ron passed away in 2008.

Martha died on October 17, 2017, after her health declined. Her body will be laid to rest in Winchester, Tennessee, at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, in the family plot next to her husband and son.

She is survived by her sister and brotherin-law, Marilyn and Norman Hankins, her son Bill Abbott; her daughter and sonin-law Melanie and Chris Royse; and ten grandchild­ren.

Margaret “Alene” Adair, 82, Cocoa, Fla.

Margaret “Alene” Adair, 82 of Cocoa, Florida, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017 with her husband Melvin by her side. She was born on November 2, 1934; to the late Luther and Cecil Loggins in Chattanoog­a, TN.

She will be greatly missed by her husband Melvin of 63 years, sister Dean Loach (Gene), daughters Cindy Montgomery and Becky Strain (Phil), grandson Jason Lee (Misty), granddaugh­ter Susan Laursen (Chris), and great grandchild­ren JC, Mackenzie, Lily, Christa, and Kayla.

Memorial service: on Friday, October 20th at 6:00 PM with a reception following at the First United Methodist Church of Port St John, 1165 Fay Blvd., Cocoa

Robert Edward Brewster, 73, Chickamaug­a, Ga.

Robert Edward Brewster, age 73 of Chickamaug­a, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, October 20, 2017.

He was born to the late Gordon D. and Ida Pauline Norris Brewster in DeKalb Co., AL and was a member of Pilgrim Way Baptist Church. He retired from the City of Chickamaug­a in 2007 after more than 32 yrs. Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfathe­r and brother, who will be greatly missed.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Robert Ivan Brewster and brother, LaDon Brewster.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, of 53 yrs., Ann Brewster; children, Carol Brewster, JoAnn (Leon) Lawson and Bobby (Jessica Pierce) Brewster; brother, David Brewster; grandchild­ren, Scott Henderson, Sheena Wilburn, Brooke Gadd, and Bradley Brewster; 6 great grandchild­ren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service: 4:00 pm on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Bill O’Neal officiatin­g.

Visitation: 11:00 am to 8:00 pm on Monday and prior to the service on Tuesday.
