One of the most successful seasons for LFO in several years came to an end in Jackson County last Wednesday as the No. 6-ranked Lady Warriors were swept by the No. 4-ranked Lady Panthers.

Jackson County 8, LFO 0

The Lady Panthers put up a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and built on their lead throughout, adding solo runs in the third and fifth innings before a four-spot in the sixth ended the game on the run rule.

Shaniyah Jones had two of LFO’s five hits. Karson Bradford had a double, while Taylor Phillips and Kourtney Morrison each added one hit. Morrison took the loss in the circle. She gave up seven earned runs on nine hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts.

The Lady Warriors, playing as the home team, jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning, but Jackson County would chip away at the deficit, scoring three times in the second and twice in the fourth to tie the score.

The Lady Panthers tacked on two more runs in the fifth, but LFO would get one back in the bottom of the inning. However, Jackson County would answer that solo run with one of their own in the top of the sixth, then opened things up with three runs in the top of the seventh.

They outhit LFO, 15-6, while the Lady Warriors hurt themselves with five errors.

Morrison allowed seven earned runs, walked three and struck out two in the loss.

Phillips was 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored. Haley Stahl also had a triple, while Jones, Morrison and Chelsey Lindsay had one hit apiece. Bradford, Lyndsey Teague and Keelie Mauk were credited with RBIs.

LFO ended its season with a 22-14 record.

Four Lady Warriors were also given post-season honors. Phillips and Jones were named as All-Region first team players, while Bradford was a second team pick.

Morrison was named as the 6-AAA Pitcher of the Year, while Player of the Year went to Bremen’s Ali Newland.
