Gordon Lee’s season ends at St. Francis

A tough season came to a close for the Gordon Lee Trojans on Friday with a 45-26 loss at St. Francis in a Region 6-A crossover game.

The Trojans (2-8) had one of their best offensive outputs of the year, racking up 456 total yards – 236 through the air and 220 on the ground.

It was a big night for senior quarterbac­k Austin Thompson, who completed 12-of-24 passes for 236 yards. He had one score through the air, though he was picked off twice, and had 78 yards rushing on 10 carries with two more touchdowns.

Thompson’s TD pass came at the 8:28 mark of the second quarter, a 57-yard strike to Hunter Hodson that temporaril­y cut the Knights’ lead to 14-7. But St. Francis (4-6) would add two more touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 28-7 lead into the locker room.

After a 314 in harsh weather at Dogwood Hills Golf Course in Flatrock, Ala. last Sunday, the Georgia Northweste­rn Bobcats enjoyed much better weather in the second round of a 36-hole, two-day match against Northeast Alabama Community College on Monday.

Playing at Goose Pond Colony in Scottsboro last Monday, the Bobcats shot 11 strokes higher with a 325, but they were still able to finish with a 36-hole score of 639 and a 14-shot victory.

David Manis, who carded an 82 on Sunday, had the Bobcats’ lowest score of the day on Monday with a 78, giving him a two-day total of 160.

He matched Lane Strickland (79-81) with a 160. Branton Bailey (75-83) had a team-best 158, while Cole Roberts (87-82) finished at 169.

Adrian Clark, who shot a 78 on Sunday, was not able to play on Monday due to a prior family commitment.

Marion Military College began the round on Sunday, but later withdrew from the event due to weather.

Georgia Northweste­rn will play one final fall tournament when they travel back to Alabama to play in the Central Alabama Community College Trojan Invitation­al.

The event will be held Nov. 12-14 at the Wynlakes Golf Club near Montgomery. quarter and Thompson added a 5-yard run with six minutes left in the period. Thompson would score Gordon Lee’s final points on a 6-yard run with 3:40 left in the game.

Jarvis had 18 carries for 135 yards and four catches for 56 yards in his final prep game, while Hodson caught four passes for 115 yards.
