LaFayette Middle School hoopsters off to fast 2-0 start

The LaFayette Ramblers led 19-9 after one quarter and pulled away from there to beat Heritage, 59-32, in their season opener last Tuesday night in Boynton.

LaFayette led 2715 at intermissi­on and blew the game wide open with a 21-8 run to end the third quarter.

Junior Barber had 19 points, four rebounds, an assist and a steal for the Ramblers, followed by Aidan Hadaway with 17 points, including three 3-pointers, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Jaylon Ramsey filled up the stat sheet with six points, seven rebounds, eight assists, five steals and a block. Cade Fisher picked up six points to go with four rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block. Chase Landon had four points, two rebounds and an assist. Gray Payton had three points on one 3-pointer, while Kendall Culbreath and Skylar Cepeda both added two points.

Marcus Fortson paced the Generals with seven points, while adding two rebounds and an assist. Bryce Travillian added six points and five rebounds. Jacob Lozano scored five points, while Kaden Swope had there points, three rebounds and an assist. Collin Swearingin also chipped in with three points, adding four steals and an assist.

Other contributo­rs for Heritage included Marcus Hagler (2 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal), Ty Loveless (2 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal, 1 block), Hayden Hall (2 points, 2 rebounds), Ryan Heet (2 points), Cecil Bussey (1 assist) and Carson Green (1 assist, 1 steal).

Heritage girls 44, LaFayette 17

The Lady Generals got 11 points from Colby Murray and eight from Lauren Mock in their season-opening victory on Tuesday. Heritage jumped out to a 12-2 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.

Riley Kokinda and Elliott Jost had six each in the victory, followed by Kalei Howard and Madeline Stone with four, Katherine Thompson with three and Brinley Horner with two.

Heather Tucker paced the Lady Ramblers (0-1) with 10 points. Abby Sansing finished with three, while Hailey Fisher and Shelley Warren dropped in two each.

Chatt. Valley boys 54, Saddle Ridge 24

K’yan Clark had 15 points, Logan Montgomery added 13 and Amarreon Turner had 11 as the Eagles took care of the Mustangs in Flintstone.

Omari McCleary dropped in seven points for CVMS, who opened the game on a 9-0 run and ended it on a 19-4 spurt. Lamarcus Bailey was a defensive standout for the home team.

Nick Green and Brady Mullaly had eight points each for the Mustangs. Braeden Holland added four points, followed by Jonathan Edge with three. Kevin Kremb and Will Snider played solid defense for the Mustangs in the loss, while Snider led the team in rebounds.

Saddle Ridge girls 31, Chatt. Valley 30

The Lady Mustangs led 27-16 after three quarters, but had to stave off a furious fourth-quarter rally by the Lady Eagles to get the road win on Tuesday.

Mykeria Johnson fought through an injury to score 17 points, grab three rebounds and collect two steals. She also hit three 3-pointers. Samantha Cramer added 11 points, five rebounds and three steals, while Haven Yancy and Lexi Baker had two points and one point, respective­ly.

Annabell Hill paced CVMS with 11 points, followed by Dasia Watkins with nine and Jenna Morgan with six.

Ringgold girls 40, Gordon Lee 15

The Lady Tigers shut out the Lady Trojans in the first half and coasted to an easy home victory in their season debut.

Taylor Layne had a dozen points to lead Ringgold. Baileigh Pitts added 10 points and Drew Burke finished with seven.

Kaitlyn Waggoner had five points to pace the Lady Trojans (01), followed by Emma McGraw and Star Alexander with four apiece.

Lakeview girls 41, Rossville 12

Rachel Lopez had a game-high 16 points, while Christina Collins and Gracie Cochran added eight points each in the win on Tuesday.

Makayla Marsh had four points for the Lady Bulldogs, while Allyson Morris dropped in three.

Lakeview boys 63, Rossville 37

Chris Maddeaux had 11 points for the Bulldogs, while Zack Harrison finished with 10.

Individual scoring for the Warriors were not provided as of press time.

Trion JV boys 38, Saddle Ridge 27

In a game played in Rock Spring last Monday, the Bulldogs led 22-12 at halftime en route to the win.

Green had 12 points for the Mustangs in the loss, followed by Matthew Fry with six and Cole Spears scored five, all in the fourth quarter.

Jackson Nicholson and Jaiden Smith added two points each.

Ringgold JV boys 42, Saddle Ridge 13

The Mustangs dropped a decision to the Tigers in Ringgold on Friday night. Green paced Saddle Ridge with six points, while Spears added four points to go with three steals and a pair of rebounds.

Marvin Johnson added two points and grabbed three boards, while Eathen Guffey had one point. Sixth graders Caden Harris and Aidan Hannibal chipped in with several rebounds each.

Individual scoring for the Tigers was not provided as of press time.

Layne had a teamhigh 15 points, while Pitts and Addi Broome had 10 each as the Lady Tigers (2-0) led 20-10 at halftime en route to a victory in Rock Spring on Thursday.

The Lady Mustangs (2-1) got 17 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, from Johnson to go to four rebounds and three steals. Cramer had four points, three rebounds and a steal on the night. Haynie Gilstrap picked up two points, three boards and two steals, while Yancy and Carly Spurlock were additional standouts.

Ringgold boys 47, Saddle Ridge 20

The Tigers (2-0) got a full team effort in their win over the Mustangs. Individual statistics were not provided as of press time.

Holland led the Mustangs (0-3) with 11 points, followed by Kremb with five and Green with four. Snider led Saddle Ridge in rebounds, while Austin Fitzpatric­k and Holland added four steals each.

LaFayette boys 47, Dade County 26

The Ramblers opened the game on a 22-5 run, led 42-7 at intermissi­on and coasted to a 2-0 record with a win in Trenton.

Barber had 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals to pace the Ramblers.

Hadaway added 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals. Ramsey picked up 10 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and three steals, while Fisher had six points, 10 boards, four assists and three steals.

Payton and Grant Langford added two points each, while Landon, Cepeda, Culbreath, Kobe Weaver, Jordan Kennerly and Chase Dillinger also contribute­d in the win.

Heritage girls 39, Chattanoog­a Valley 24

The Lady Eagles fell to 1-1 on the year with the road loss. Watkins led CVMS with 13 points. Hill added nine and Lexie Young chipped in with two. Morgan, Madison Bowman and Halie Thompson played solid defensive games.

Individual statistics for the Lady Generals (2-0) were not provided as of press time.

Heritage boys 39, Chattanoog­a Valley 25

The Generals (1-1) led 21-8 at the break and went on to their first win of the year. Kaden Swope led Heritage with 16 points, four rebounds and four steals, followed by Marcus Fortson with 12 points and five boards. Ty Loveless had seven points, five rebounds and three blocks.

Other contributo­rs included Heet (3 points, 3 rebounds), Lozano: (1 points, 3 rebounds), Travillian (2 assists, 2 rebounds, 2 blocks), Swearingin (3 steals), Hagler (5 rebounds) and Donnie Nepp (1 rebound).

Izaac Bryant had five points for the Eagles (1-1). McCleary, Montgomery, Ashton Turner and Amarreon Turner had four points apiece.

Trion girls 28, Rossville 9

Rossville dropped to 0-2 on the year with the loss at home. Sierra Edwards and Makayla Cope had three points each, followed by Marsh with two and McKenzie Miller with one.

Rossville boys 60, Trion 27

The homestandi­ng Bulldogs held a narrow 26-21 lead at intermissi­on, but outscored Trion 30-8 in the second half.

Harrison poured in a game-high 22 points, while Maddeaux, Zion Irvin and Alex Renner added eight each as Rossville moved to 1-1 on the season.

Gordon Lee girls 33, Lakeview 30

The Lady Trojans led 15-14 at halftime, extended their advantage to 27-17 by the end of the third quarter and hung on for a three-point home win, their first of the year.

McGraw had 14 points for Gordon Lee (1-1), followed by Macy Sharp with eight and Alexander with four.

Lopez had 17 points for the Lady Warriors (1-1) in the loss, while Collins finished with four.
