Lady Ramblers earn blowout victory

The LaFayette Lady Ramblers closed out 2017 in style Friday night with a resounding victory against Class 6A Chattahooc­hee during the final day of the Chattooga Christmas Tournament.

Chattooga 59, LaFayette 41

Last Wednesday, the Lady Ramblers began their tournament with a loss to the host Lady Indians.

Chattooga led 3218 at halftime and LaFayette would not get any closer than 14 points in the second half as the Lady Indians pulled away in the final quarter.

LaTyah Barber had 10 points to lead the Lady Ramblers before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Nicky Yancy and Marquila Howell had eight points apiece in the loss.

Cedartown 50, LaFayette 33

The Lady Ramblers led 18-17 at halftime on Thursday, but faltered down the stretch against the Lady Bulldogs in the consolatio­n bracket.

LaFayette trailed by four to start the fourth period, but had difficulty with the Lady Bulldogs’ full-court press, leading to several late turnovers.

Howell had nine points in the loss, followed by Yancy with eight and Grace Hamilton with five.

LaFayette 66, Chattahooc­hee 37

The Lady Ramblers used a big fourth quarter to pull away

from the Lady Cougars on the final night of the tournament on Friday.

LaFayette took the lead and never surrendere­d it, going up 34-20 at halftime

before outscoring Chattahooc­hee in the fourth quarter, 19-5.

Barber was named to the All-Tournament Team following a big night in which she scored 24 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and added seven assists and six steals for the Lady Ramblers (2-10).

Howell had 15 points, nine rebounds and six steals.

Alyssa Estus scored all eight of her points in the fourth quarter and pulled down five rebounds.

Yancy had six points and four steals, while Emily Redden added five points.
