Warriors place fifth at Rockmart Invitation­al

The LFO Warriors took just eight wrestlers to this past Thursday’s Rockmart Invitation­al, but came back with two champions and three others who placed as the Red-and-White finished fifth overall in the 18-team event.

Jacob Brown and Kameron Peters both went 5-0 in winning their individual weight classes. Nathan Williams and Lathan Stevens both went 4-1 and placed second, while Johnathan Cutcher also went 4-1 and took third.

Emmanuel Arroyo and Dylan Simpson were each 2-2 on the day while Jerry Jackson also competed for the Warriors.

Hillgrove won the tournament with 175.5 points. The Hawks finished with four individual champions. The host Yellow Jackets were second with 139 points, followed closely behind by Armuchee (134) and Newnan’s “A” squad (132.5).

The Warriors finished with 122 points to place ahead of Northwest Whitfield (115) and Ringgold (100.5) in the team standings.

Logan Skeen and Holden Moss each finished second for the Tigers, while Ethan Rohrer and Malachi Parker both placed third.

Two days later, the Warriors went 2-3 on the day during the Calhoun Duals.

LFO picked up wins over Adairsvill­e (34-33) and Fannin County (36-36, LFO wins on criteria), but lost to LaFayette (51-20), Pepperell (36-24) and Carrollton (54-15).

Caleb Chopane (138) had five wins on the day with three pins and one technical fall. Peters (285) also had five wins, including an overtime victory over LaFayette’s Matthew Wallin.

Brown (152/160) had four wins, all by pin. Williams (182) had four wins with a pair of pins. Jackson (113) had one pin, while Alec Gentry (145) added a major decision.
