Heritage netters take control in 6-AAAA

The Heritage Lady Generals improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in Region 6-AAAA play with three more victories last week.

Last Tuesday, they rolled to a 5-0 sweep of Gilmer without dropping a set in the road win. Caroline Horsley won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Emma Lokey picked up a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles and Maleah McAlister earned a 6-2, 6-4 win to sweep the singles matches.

Then in doubles, the No. 1 team of Erin Hulsey and Katelyn Burns cruised 6-1, 6-1, while Morgan Phillips and Bailey Christol finished the match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

Wednesday saw a 4-1 victory over Southeast Whitfield as Horsley picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win over Deliah Fowler at No. 1 singles. Lokey defeated Lauren Allen, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles, while Southeast won the final singles match as Alyson Kountz defeated Grace Beagles, 6-4, 6-2.

Heritage would close it out with a sweep in doubles. Hulsey and Burns beat Jaycee Chastaine and Lindsey Shelton, 6-2, 6-1, while Phillips and Christol defeated Anna Boyd and Ana Celaya, 6-2, 6-0.

Then on Thursday, at Edwards Park in Dalton, the Lady Generals dispatched Northwest Whitfield by a 4-1 count.

Girls’ singles winners included Lokey (6-3, 6-4) and McAlister (6-0, 6-1). Hulsey and Burns won at No. 1 doubles (6-1, 6-1), while Phillips and Christol won at No. 2 doubles (6-1, 6-1).

Generals keep pace with three wins

The Heritage boys (6-1, 3-0) also went 3-0 last week, getting by Gilmer on Tuesday before having an easier time with the Whitfield County schools on Thursday and Friday.

The Generals picked up a narrow 3-2 victory over the Bobcats. Leo Peace lost the first singles match, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0, to Carter Hice. Tim Grayson answered with a 6-4, 7-6 (0) win over Brett Becker, but Davis Kilgo fell to Tripp Pierce, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3 singles.

However, Heritage would pull out the win after sweeping both doubles matches. Cooper Terry and Eric Wootten beat Corbin Singleton and Luke Wimpey, 7-6 (2), 6-3, and Blake Richardson and Ethan Bone polished things off with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Mason Hadden and Rylan Cochran.

Against Southeast, Peace beat Brett Buckner, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1 singles, while Grayson defeated Seth Barnett, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2 singles. Kilgo made it a singles sweep with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 win over Cody Bishop.

The Raiders won at No. 1 doubles as Richardson and Bone fell to Porter Johnson and Josiah Hasty, 6-2, 6-2. However, Terry and Nick Darling came back to beat Kade Lentych and Jarrod Wright, 6-2, 6-1, to close out a 4-1 win.

Then on Thursday, Heritage earned another 4-1 victory. On the boys’ side, Grayson claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win. Kilgo won his match, 6-0, 6-2, and Austin Long picked up a 6-3, 7-6 (3) victory. The team of Terry and Darling scored a 6-4, 6-1 win.
