Ringgold golfers slip past North Murray at windy Windstone

Fighting cold temperatur­es and very windy conditions, the Ringgold boys’ golf team pulled out a four-stroke victory over North Murray at aptly-named Windstone Golf Course last Tuesday.

Gavin Noble shot a solid round of 37, followed by a 45 from Jett Bridges, a 46 from Harrison Haupt and a 50 from Joseph Taylor to complete the team score of 178. Jerin Morgan also played for the Tigers and finished with a 52.

It was the lowest scores of the season for both Bridges and Haupt.

Gage Winkler had a 38 to lead North Murray, who finished with a 182.

LaFayette, Heritage split match

A 1-under par 35 from Gage Smith and a 2-over 38 from Riley Grant helped the LaFayette Ramblers to a 28-stroke victory over Heritage in a nine-hole match at the LaFayette Golf Course on Thursday.

Carter Grant added a 40 and Mason Cain shot a 41 to complete the 154 team score. Tyler Jackson (42) and Scott Smith (44) also played for the Ramblers’ varsity squad.

Heritage (182) was led by a 43 from Robert Allen Lyle. They got a 45 from Carter Bell and a pair of 47’s from Cain Stover and Logan Self. Declan Ryan (50) and Matthew Redman (55) also played for the Generals.

The LaFayette JV team (205) also played on Thursday. Kyle Moore paced the group with a 43, followed by Jon Durham (51), Josh Bettis (53) and Riley Mitchell (58).

In the girls’ match, Heritage scored a 141149 win behind a 42 from Caroline Bentley and a 49 from Carson Nixon. Lauren Self carded a 50, while Katie Proctor had a 51. Kendall Harrell and Traevin Penland each shot a 52 and Lexi Besh had a 57.

For LaFayette (149), Maci Johnson had a 43, followed by Shelby Whittle (51), Hannah Bowman (55) and Emma Moore (62).

Only the top three scores make up the team score for girls’ teams in Class 4A.

Ramblers, Trojans battle in Athens

The LaFayette Ramblers and Gordon Lee Trojans teed off at the University of Georgia Course in the Athens Classic on Saturday.

Gage Smith and Gordon Lee’s Tucker Windham each shot a 73, which put them in a group tied for eighth place out of 149 players. Both made the AllTournam­ent Team.

For the Ramblers, Jackson and Cain each shot a 79, followed by an 80 from Riley Grant to round out the team score. Carter Grant had an 84, while Scott Smith carded a 99.

Gray Weldon had a 78 for the Trojans, followed by Jacob Carlock with a 79 and Christian Boyd with an 87. Also playing for Gordon Lee was Cole Walker (97) and Gunner Williams (103).

LaFayette placed fourth overall with a 311, while Gordon Lee finished six shots back in the 24-team event.

The Trojans’ score of 317 was good enough for ninth place. Gainesvill­e (294) won the team title, followed by Peachtree Ridge (305) and Prince Avenue Christian (307).

Walnut Grove’s Isaac Samples won with a 66.
