Ring­gold golfers slip past North Murray at windy Wind­stone

Fight­ing cold tem­per­a­tures and very windy con­di­tions, the Ring­gold boys’ golf team pulled out a four-stroke vic­tory over North Murray at aptly-named Wind­stone Golf Course last Tues­day.

Gavin No­ble shot a solid round of 37, fol­lowed by a 45 from Jett Bridges, a 46 from Har­ri­son Haupt and a 50 from Joseph Tay­lor to com­plete the team score of 178. Jerin Mor­gan also played for the Tigers and fin­ished with a 52.

It was the low­est scores of the sea­son for both Bridges and Haupt.

Gage Win­kler had a 38 to lead North Murray, who fin­ished with a 182.

LaFayette, Her­itage split match

A 1-un­der par 35 from Gage Smith and a 2-over 38 from Ri­ley Grant helped the LaFayette Ram­blers to a 28-stroke vic­tory over Her­itage in a nine-hole match at the LaFayette Golf Course on Thurs­day.

Carter Grant added a 40 and Ma­son Cain shot a 41 to com­plete the 154 team score. Tyler Jack­son (42) and Scott Smith (44) also played for the Ram­blers’ var­sity squad.

Her­itage (182) was led by a 43 from Robert Allen Lyle. They got a 45 from Carter Bell and a pair of 47’s from Cain Stover and Lo­gan Self. De­clan Ryan (50) and Matthew Red­man (55) also played for the Gen­er­als.

The LaFayette JV team (205) also played on Thurs­day. Kyle Moore paced the group with a 43, fol­lowed by Jon Durham (51), Josh Bet­tis (53) and Ri­ley Mitchell (58).

In the girls’ match, Her­itage scored a 141149 win be­hind a 42 from Caro­line Bent­ley and a 49 from Car­son Nixon. Lau­ren Self carded a 50, while Katie Proctor had a 51. Ken­dall Har­rell and Traevin Pen­land each shot a 52 and Lexi Besh had a 57.

For LaFayette (149), Maci John­son had a 43, fol­lowed by Shelby Whit­tle (51), Han­nah Bow­man (55) and Emma Moore (62).

Only the top three scores make up the team score for girls’ teams in Class 4A.

Ram­blers, Tro­jans bat­tle in Athens

The LaFayette Ram­blers and Gor­don Lee Tro­jans teed off at the Univer­sity of Ge­or­gia Course in the Athens Clas­sic on Satur­day.

Gage Smith and Gor­don Lee’s Tucker Wind­ham each shot a 73, which put them in a group tied for eighth place out of 149 play­ers. Both made the Al­lTour­na­ment Team.

For the Ram­blers, Jack­son and Cain each shot a 79, fol­lowed by an 80 from Ri­ley Grant to round out the team score. Carter Grant had an 84, while Scott Smith carded a 99.

Gray Wel­don had a 78 for the Tro­jans, fol­lowed by Ja­cob Car­lock with a 79 and Chris­tian Boyd with an 87. Also play­ing for Gor­don Lee was Cole Walker (97) and Gun­ner Wil­liams (103).

LaFayette placed fourth over­all with a 311, while Gor­don Lee fin­ished six shots back in the 24-team event.

The Tro­jans’ score of 317 was good enough for ninth place. Gainesville (294) won the team ti­tle, fol­lowed by Peachtree Ridge (305) and Prince Av­enue Chris­tian (307).

Wal­nut Grove’s Isaac Sam­ples won with a 66.
