Kelehear, Wilcox, Wiley named GACA All-State

The Georgia Athletic Coaches Associatio­n (GACA) has announced its All-State basketball teams for the 20172018 season and three players from the Catoosa and Walker Counties were honored.

LaFayette junior guard Alex Kelehear was picked as the Co-Player of the Year for Class 4A North, along with Everett Lane of St. Pius X. Kelehear averaged 19.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 2.3 steals.

The Region 6-AAAA Player of the Year shot 42 percent from behind the 3-point arc and 89 percent from the free throw line as the Ramblers went 25-3, won the region championsh­ip and advanced to the Elite Eight before a loss to nationally­ranked Upson-Lee.

Heritage senior center Cole Wilcox was also named to the boys’ team in Class 4A North. Wilcox, a future Georgia baseball player and a potential first-round pick in June’s Major League Baseball draft, scored 17.6 points a night to go with 10.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.6 blocks.

He shot 57 percent from the field this past season and nearly 59 percent in a four-year career that saw him score over 1,500 points and finish with nearly 1,000 rebounds and 200 blocks, while also helping Heritage to 80 wins.

Also getting the honor was Heritage junior Emily Wiley, who was picked to the girls’ Class 4A North team. Wiley got her team to the state playoffs after scoring 18.1 points a game, adding 8.6 rebounds a game and two blocks a night.

She shot 76 percent from the free throw line and crossed the 1,000-point mark for her career this past season.

The Lady Generals are 67-21 in her three seasons and have been to the state playoffs three straight years.
