Kele­hear, Wil­cox, Wi­ley named GACA All-State

The Ge­or­gia Ath­letic Coaches As­so­ci­a­tion (GACA) has an­nounced its All-State bas­ket­ball teams for the 20172018 sea­son and three play­ers from the Ca­toosa and Walker Coun­ties were hon­ored.

LaFayette ju­nior guard Alex Kele­hear was picked as the Co-Player of the Year for Class 4A North, along with Everett Lane of St. Pius X. Kele­hear av­er­aged 19.5 points, 5.1 re­bounds, 5.9 as­sists and 2.3 steals.

The Re­gion 6-AAAA Player of the Year shot 42 per­cent from be­hind the 3-point arc and 89 per­cent from the free throw line as the Ram­blers went 25-3, won the re­gion cham­pi­onship and ad­vanced to the Elite Eight be­fore a loss to na­tion­al­lyranked Up­son-Lee.

Her­itage se­nior cen­ter Cole Wil­cox was also named to the boys’ team in Class 4A North. Wil­cox, a fu­ture Ge­or­gia base­ball player and a po­ten­tial first-round pick in June’s Ma­jor League Base­ball draft, scored 17.6 points a night to go with 10.6 re­bounds, 3.2 as­sists and 2.6 blocks.

He shot 57 per­cent from the field this past sea­son and nearly 59 per­cent in a four-year ca­reer that saw him score over 1,500 points and fin­ish with nearly 1,000 re­bounds and 200 blocks, while also help­ing Her­itage to 80 wins.

Also get­ting the honor was Her­itage ju­nior Emily Wi­ley, who was picked to the girls’ Class 4A North team. Wi­ley got her team to the state play­offs af­ter scor­ing 18.1 points a game, adding 8.6 re­bounds a game and two blocks a night.

She shot 76 per­cent from the free throw line and crossed the 1,000-point mark for her ca­reer this past sea­son.

The Lady Gen­er­als are 67-21 in her three sea­sons and have been to the state play­offs three straight years.
