Ringgold drill team wins back-to-back state championships

-

The Ringgold Tiger Guard Drill Team did two things this year that has never been done in Catoosa County Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) history: They won back-to-back state championships and they were selected “Two Years in a Row” to represent Georgia and 6th Brigade at the Army National Drill Competition in Louisville Kentucky.

Sergeant First Class Larry Sisemore, the army instructor at Ringgold and the drill team head coach, says the difference over the past few years has been because of three things.

1. The addition of his assistant community coach and professional driller Eric Cromwell (who is a former Tiger Guard member)

2. The involvement of professional drillers Matt and Kirsten Wendling from the company Drill Dynamics out of San Antonio, Texas.

3. The cadets’ willingness to buy into the fact that just because we are a small drill team from a small school doesn’t mean we can’t compete with and beat the biggest and best in the country.
