Prep Volleyball Report: Heritage beats Lafayette, Ringgold earns top seed in 6-AAA

The Area 6-AAAA showdown between Heritage and Lafayette went the way of the home team last Tuesday night as the Lady Generals scored the win, 25-17 and 27-25.

Morgan Trotter had 10 kills for the Lady Generals in the victory. Kallie Carter had four kills and 2.5 blocks. Lauren Francis had 22 assists, six digs and an ace, while Anna Wilks had three aces and six digs.

Jillian Morgan had 10 kills and two blocks for the Lady Ramblers. Imani Cook had three kills, three blocks and a pair of digs. Colby Charland and Micaela Hobbs each had nine digs, while Charland also picked up 13 assists.

Heritage capped the week with a sweep of Chattooga (25-11, 25-23) and Pepperell (25-14, 25-14) in Summervill­e on Thursday.

Trotter had 10 more kills and a block against Chattooga, while Carter added five kills and a block. Kali Brown had five kills, five digs and an ace, while Francis had three aces and assisted on 25 shots. Brown had five kills, five digs and two aces versus the Lady Dragons. Kayla Varnon had three kills and Trinity Ha finished with four digs and two aces.

Lafayette bounced back with wins over Gordon Central (25-9, 25-10) and Gordon Lee (25-18, 19-25, 15-9) at home on Thursday.

Morgan had 18 total kills on the evening to go with five aces and four blocks. Gracie Stier had 11 kills, 11 digs and seven aces. Sarah Ray finished with eight kills and four blocks. Darsey Shields had four kills and Charland had 10 digs, five kills, four aces, two blocks and 41 total assists.

Also contributi­ng in the victory was Hobbs (10 digs, three aces), Kloe Ludy (six digs, one kill), Bailey Tarvin (nine digs, seven aces), Elaina Kirkendoll (three kills, one block) and Cook (three digs, one kill, one block).

Gordon Lee coasted past the Lady Warriors (25-10, 25-9), in a non-area match. Brooklyn Hudson had 14 kills on the evening to go with four blocks. Maribeth Blaylock added 11 kills and three blocks. Delaney Bridges had six kills and five blocks. M.K. Roberts dished out 24 assists and Madison Mayberry collected 16 digs.

It was the second win for the Lady Trojans over Gordon Central in a span of a week as they beat the Lady Warriors (25-14, 25-14, 25-10) in an Area 7-A/AA match in Calhoun on Tuesday.

Roberts had 25 assists and nine digs. Blaylock had nine kills and five digs. Bridges had six kills and three blocks, while Hudson also finished with nine kills as Gordon Lee moved to 2-0 in area play.

Ringgold wrapped up the No. 1 seed for the Area 6-AAA tournament with a sweep of Coahulla Creek (25-11, 25-9) and Murray County (25-18, 25-22) last Tuesday.

Bethany Thomason had eight kills, five aces and a block in the sweep. Jasley Brooks collected seven kills and three aces. Sydney Pittman came through with six kills and three blocks. Emily Ridley had seven aces against the Lady Colts and a kill and three digs versus the Lady Indians, while Zoie Metcalf served up 10 aces, recorded 32 total assists, three kills, five digs and a block.

Also contributi­ng in the victories were Abby Roach (four kills, one ace, one dig). Makenna Mercer (three kills, one dig), Meredith Fowler (two aces, one dig), Melanie Severns (one kill) and Gracie Milford (one ace, one dig).

The Lady Tigers ended the week with a split a pair of matches in Dalton on Thursday. They fell to host Southeast Whitfield (25-20, 19-25, 20-18) but handed Coahulla Creek a non-area loss (258, 25-17).

Pittman continued to shine on offense with 15 total kills, while adding five blocks. Metcalf collected 40 assists to go with nine kills and six aces. Brooks had five aces and five kills. Severns added four kills, while Ridley finished with six aces and four digs.

Also helping out in the victory was Thomason (two aces, four kills, one block, two digs), Milford (three aces, one dig), Mercer (one ace, four kills, one block, three assists, two digs), Roach (two kills, one dig) and Fowler (one dig, one ace).

Ridgeland earned a split in an Area 6-AAAA tri-match at Gilmer last Tuesday, beating the Lady Bobcats (19-25, 25-19, 25-14), but losing to Southeast Whitfield (2513, 25-16).
