Former Ringgold standouts offering baseball lessons

Former Ringgold High School and Clemson University baseball standout Matthew Crownover is currently offering baseball lessons.

Crownover was the 2015 ACC Pitcher of the Year, a two-time ALL-ACC Academic honoree and a two-time ACC Academic Honor Roll member. He was drafted in the sixth round by the Washington Nationals in 2015 and has played at the Class A and AA levels.

He recently capped his 2018 season by throwing a no-hitter for the (Class A) Potomac Nationals.

Former Ringgold High School and Georgia Southern University baseball standout Logan Baldwin is also currently offering hitting, fielding and throwing lessons at the Fury indoor complex (197 Hunt Drive, Rossville).

Lessons will cost $45 for 30 minutes or $80 for one hour.

Baldwin was a member of Team Georgia in 2012, an All-region selection in 2013 and an All-state and All-region selection in 2014. He played three years at Georgia Southern, earning Sun Belt Conference All-tournament honors in 2016 and 2017. The Eagles won the conference tournament championsh­ip in 2017 in Baldwin was featured on ESPN Sportscent­er’s Top 10 Plays three times during his college career.

He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 21st round of the 2017 amateur baseball draft. He won a batting title in his first profession­al season in the Northwest League and he was named player of the week in the South Atlantic League this past season.

Lafayette offering outdoors classes

Lafayette Outdoor Adventures has partnered with REI Outdoor School for a variety of classes, including mountain biking (ages 14 and up) and wilderness survival (ages 13 and up). The mountain biking class will be held on Sept. 25 (6-8 p.m.) while the wilderness survival classes will be held on Oct. 6 and Oct. 9 (6-8 p.m. both nights).

Cheer Cats holding tryouts through September

The GNTC Cheer Cats will hold tryouts at Hot Shots in Fort Oglethorpe (1064 Cloud Springs Road) from 9 a.m.-12 noon, every Friday morning through Sept. 28.

Prospectiv­e athletes must be currently enrolled GNTC students, taking at least 12 credit hours and be in good standing with the school. Participan­ts must also present a current and updated physical form.

Mcalister receives offer

Heritage junior offensive lineman Kobe Mcalister picked up a scholarshi­p offer this past week from the University of Cincinnati of the American Athletic Conference. It is the first NCAA Division I offer for the 6-foot6, 275-pounder.

Ringgold High fishing tournament

The 4th Annual Ringgold High School Fishing Tournament to benefit the Ringgold High School baseball program will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Chester Frost Park’s Main Boat Ramp in Hixson, Tennessee (2277 Gold Point Circle).

The event will begin at safelight and finish up at 3 p.m. Entry fee is $100 per boat and 50 percent of the payout will go to the top three places and the big fish award.

There will be a five- fish limit and no dead fish will be weighed. In the event of a tie, the big fish from the tied teams will determine first place.
