High School Volleyball Report: Area tournament­s to be contested this weekend

The Area 6-AAAA tournament will begin on Thursday of this week with first-round matches at the higher-seeded schools.

No. 2-seeded Heritage will host No. 7-seeded Gilmer, No. 3-seeded Lafayette will host No. 6-seeded Pickens and No. 4-seeded Southeast Whitfield will host No. 5-seeded Ridgeland. All of those matches will start at 5:30 p.m. No. 1-seeded Northwest Whitfield will get a first-round bye in the double-eliminatio­n tournament.

The rest of the tournament will be played at Southeast this Saturday, Oct. 13.

LFO will host Coahulla Creek in the first round of the five-team Area 6-AAA tournament on Thursday before the remainder of the tournament shifts to Ringgold High School on Saturday and Gordon Lee will host the entire Area 7-A/AA Public School tournament this Saturday, starting at 10 a.m.

Oakwood Christian will host the SCAA tournament on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Heritage defeated Pickens (25-11, 25-12) and Gilmer (25-18, 25-12) last week to help lock up the No. 2 seed.

Morgan Trotter had seven kills and Kali Brown had six kills in the win over Pickens. Anna Wilks finished with nine digs and Trinity Ha had four digs in five aces. Against Gilmer, Kayla Varnon finished with seven kills. Kallie Carter had four kills and two blocks, while Lauren Frances dished out 23 assists.

Heritage also scored a win over LFO (25-11, 25-14) on Senior Night this past Thusrday. Kali Brown had six kills and two aces. Trotter finished with six kills and a block. Varnon had four kills and three blocks, while Macie Stephens had two kills, two aces and two blocks.

Lafayette was relegated to the No. 3 seed last Tuesday. The Lady Ramblers beat Southeast (25-13, 25-5), but fell to Northwest (22-25, 25-20, 25-15).

Jillian Morgan had 14 kills on the evening to go with six blocks, five digs and one ace. Gracie Stier had seven kills, 12 digs and five aces. Colby Charland ended the night with 28 aces, 12 digs, five blocks, four kills and three aces, while Sarah Ray picked up four kills and four blocks.

Lafayette rebounded with a sweep of North Murray (25-14, 25-16) and Christian Heritage (25-13, 25-10) on Thursday.

Morgan ended the night with 20 kills and eight blocks. Imani Cook had eight kills, three digs, an ace and a block. Stier had eight kills, eight digs and three blocks. Ray had seven kills and two blocks, while Charland filled up the stat sheet with nine digs, five aces, six blocks, two kills and 33 total assists.

The Ridgeland Lady Panthers picked up a victory over Adairsvill­e (25-12, 28-26) last Tuesday, but lost to host LFO (25-21, 25-16) in a trimatch in Fort Oglethorpe.

Jayda Jenkins had nine kills, six digs and two aces on the night. Justice Devlin finished with eight kills and three blocks. Landree Dunn had six kills and four aces. Emma Carter had 23 total assists to go with six digs, three aces and two kills, while Sarah Williams had six aces, 11 digs and two kills.

Ridgeland was scheduled for one final tri-match this Tuesday – with Murray County – at Sonoravill­e.

LFO made it a Senior Night sweep with a victory over Adairsvill­e (25-14, 25-17).

Macey Gregg recorded 27 kills on the night to go with 15 digs. Alesya Mcburnett had 22 total assists, five aces and two kills. Jadah Ownby had eight kills and two blocks. Morgan Noblitt finished with 19 assists, four kills and two aces.

Symerel Bennett collected four kills and a block against the Lady Tigers and Sheyenne Dunwoody served up six aces versus Adairsvill­e. Miyah Foster recorded eight kills, seven digs and three aces against Ridgeland, while Xitlalli Gomez added four aces in that match.

Gordon Lee swept Dade County (25-21, 25-16, 25-15) in Trenton last Tuesday to sew up the No. 1 seed in the area. Delaney Bridges had 17 kills and two blocks on the night. Mallory Collier finished with 12 assists, while Madison Mayberry had nine digs.

After beating Ringgold on Thursday, the Lady Trojans fell to Northwest (2518, 25-19) in the night’s second match.

Arilyn Lee had 14 kills on the night and Maribeth Blaylock finished with 10. M.K. Roberts had 22 assists and 13 digs. Mayberry finished with 18 digs, while Annie Mcdaniel recorded 11 digs.

Gordon Lee was slated to face Northwest again on Tuesday of this week in a tri-match at LFO.

Oakwood Christian was off this past week.
