collect more history on the 180th anniversar­y of the Trail of Tears, which involved many Cherokee, white, and African-american residents of Walker County. In those days, it included Dade, Catoosa, Chattooga, and part of Whitfield counties. The Historical Society will be recording and copying stories with Walker County connection­s. There will also be a rememberin­g ceremony and a walk around the Duck Pond as a way to connect with the forced march to Oklahoma. The public is invited. Local artist Durinda Cheek led eight painters on a week of plein air painting (in the open air) in France. COMMUNITY • Christians United for Israel (CUFI), along with churches in North Georgia, North Alabama, and Southeast Tennessee, invites the community to a “Night to Honor Israel” on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. at the Colonnade, 264 Catoosa Circle, in Ringgold. The purpose of this event is to show solidarity between Jewish people and Christians in their support of Israel. The event is open to the public. There is no cost to attend. A compliment­ary reception will follow the event. All people are welcome regardless of religion or denominati­on. The event features Keynote Speaker, Erick Stakelbeck, a sought-after authority on the Middle East, terrorism, and radical Islam. “A Night to Honor Israel” is one of the activities promoted by Christians United for Israel.
