UTC releases 2019 spring softball slate
The Chattanooga Mocs softball team will host 22 games inside Frost Stadium this season including the annual Chattanooga Challenge (Feb. 15-16) and Frost Classic (Feb. 22-24) as well as the Southern Conference Championships (May 8-11) for the 11th time in program history.
“We’re excited to release the schedule on our ‘Blue/gold’ weekend, it’s always a great weekend for Mocs softball,” said head coach Frank Reed. “It looks like a challenging schedule for us in 2019, but we’re definitely up for that challenge.”
Chattanooga opens up the season Feb. 8 in nearby Kennesaw, Ga., at the KSU Tournament against Ohio. They’ll face Morehead State, Eastern Illinois and Kennesaw State to close out the opening weekend.
Frost Stadium will see its first action on Feb. 15-16 with the Chat- tanooga Challenge. Participating teams include Tennessee Tech, Dayton, Indiana State and Kennesaw State.
The Frost Classic will take place the following weekend, Feb. 22-24, and will feature seven teams. Alongside UTC, Creighton, Western Michigan, Ohio, Eastern Kentucky, Southern Illinois-carbondale and Evansville will all visit the Scenic City.
Following the Frost Classic, Chattanooga will begin its annual Florida tour, spanning from Mar. 1-17, with stops in Medeira Beach and Clearwater. The Medeira Beach tournament runs from Mar. 1-3 ahead of the USF Invitational in Clearwater, which runs from Mar. 8-17.
The Mocs open up Southern Conference play on the road, Mar. 23-24 in Greenville, S.C., against Furman. They’ll return home Mar. 30-31 for a three-game series against defending Socon champion Unc-greensboro.
Southern Conference action for UTC will continue on April 13-14 in Macon with three games at Mercer before Western Carolina comes to Frost Stadium on April 19-20. Chattanooga and ETSU will meet in Johnson City on April 27-28 before conference play wraps up at Frost against Samford on May 4-5.
Chattanooga will host the Southern Conference Championships for the 11th time in program history, most among all Socon-member schools. The tournament will run from May 8-11 inside Frost Stadium.
“We’re excited about the Southern Conference Championships being held in Chattanooga this year,” Reed added. “There’s no better place than Frost Stadium to hold the championship, so we’re excited to have our fans come out and cheer us on during the most important time of the season.”
