The Oakwood Christian Lady Eagles got 18 points and five blocks from Grayson Broadrick in a 50-44 win over Georgia Cumberland Academy in Calhoun last Monday night. Broadrick connected on 4-of-7 shots from behind the arc in the victory.

Lily Green had 15 points, grabbed six rebounds and collected four steals. Lexie Asher went for six points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Mary Ownby had five points and three steals. Avery Green finished with four points and Callie Ray’s two points rounded out the scoring.

In the nightcap, the Eagles started out slow and could never find their range in a 55-34 loss.

Jacob Wellwood had eight points for OCA, followed by Tyler Epperson with seven. Garrison Baggett, Woody Hass and Phillip Davis had five points each, while Chase Lanham and Cory Taylor both dropped in two.

Oakwood’s boys picked up their first win of the season the following night as they defeated Christ’s Legacy Academy, 63-39, in Athens, Tenn.

OCA did not give up a field goal in the first quarter and took a commanding 40-11 lead at halftime before coasting to the victory behind a solid defensive performance.

The Eagles also got balanced scoring from Hass (14 points), Andrew Phillips (10 points) and Caleb Epperson (seven points). Lanham had six points, followed by Wellwood and Tyler Epperson (five points), Noah Permenter and Davis (four points) and Baggett, Taylor, Jacob Jones and Thomas Buckels and Taylor (two points).

The Eagles were 0-11 alltime in basketball games against Tennessee Christian Prep School coming into this past Friday’s meeting in Chickamauga.

That losing streak is now a thing of the past as the Navyand-gold made the game’s first basket and never trailed in a 57-48 victory.

OCA (2-2) led 12-4 after one quarter and extended the lead to 31-18 at halftime. The Eagles helped their own cause by connecting on 21 free throws.

Caleb Epperson hit three 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 17 points. Baggett finished with eight points, followed by Wellwood and Hass with seven. Phillips dropped in six points. Tyler Epperson and Lanham each had four points, while Davis and Permenter both added two points.

The OCA junior varsity team dropped a 46-42 decision in the day’s first game. Individual scoring was not provided.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Eagles moved to 2-1 on the year with a 51-47 victory. Freshman Avery Green had the hot hand with 20 points. Ownby and Asher had 10 points apiece, while Asher also pulled down five rebounds. Lily Green added four points and four boards, while Raleigh Suits rounded out the scoring with two points.

Both OCA teams will be back in action on Nov. 29 when they play at Calvary Christian.
