Catoosa teams off to hot starts

Jamichael Davis scored 21 points and the Lakeview Middle School boys opened the 2018-2019 basketball season with a 54-19 victory at Rossville last Tuesday night.

Justin Mcnabb scored 10 points for the Warriors, while Amari Burnett had eight points.

Individual scoring for the Bulldogs had not been provided as of press time.

The Warriors moved to 2-0 on the season as they defeated Gordon Lee, 44-28, on Thursday.

Davis again had 21 points for the Warriors, while Burnett finished with 16.

Individual scoring for the Trojans had not been provided as of press time.

The Ringgold Tigers led 16-14 at halftime, opened up the lead in the third quarter and held on at the end as they edged out Gordon Lee, 30-29, last Tuesday night in Chickamaug­a.

Brent Bowman had a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 16 points for the Tigers. Bowman went 6-of-9 at the free throw line. Brevin Massengale had six points in the victory, followed by Christian Smith with five and Luke Rominger with three.

For the Trojans, Josh Underwood had a team-high 11 points. Jordan Underwood, Nate Dunfee, Holt Roberts and Kade Cowan had four points each, while Brodie Genter finished with two.

Omari Cleary scored 12 of his team-high 14 points in the second half and Matthew Ramsey scored eight of his 11 points in the final two quarters as the Chattanoog­a Valley Eagles began the new season with a 40-28 victory at Saddle Ridge last Tuesday.

Judd Anderson had six points for Chattanoog­a Valley, while Coach Corey Lingerfelt praised Anderson, Izaac Bryant, Jakobe Turner and Austyn Acuff for their efforts and hustle on the defensive end of the floor.

Jaiden Smith poured in 14 points for the Mustangs, followed by Nick Green and Cole Spears with six each. Eathen Guffey rounded out the scoring with two points.

Ringgold led Saddle Ridge 27-11 at halftime and downed the Mustangs, 52-28, on Thursday to stay unbeaten.

Rominger and Cooper Sexton had 10 points apiece for Ringgold, while Massengale, Bowman and Ty Gilbert had eight points apiece.

Green scored 11 for Saddle Ridge, including going 5-of-7 from the free throw line. Marvin Jones had six points on a pair of fourthquar­ter 3- pointers and Landon Kennedy finished with five points. Smith (four points) and Jackson Nicholson (two points) rounded out the scoring.

In the boys’ JV game, Ringgold picked up a 34-14 victory. Individual scoring for the Tigers had not been provided as of press time.

Aidan Hannibal and Jason Guffey led the JV Mustangs with five points each. Greyson Potts scored three and Gavin Potts added one.

The Heritage Generals got 19 points from Kaden Swope and 17 from Bryce Travillian as they held off Lafayette, 45-41, last Tuesday night in Boynton. It was the two teams’ first meeting since last season’s NGAC tournament championsh­ip game.

Tied 18-18 at intermissi­on, Heritage forged a four-point lead going into the fourth quarter. The Generals’ advantage was two with 19 seconds remaining when Paxton Mccrary hit a pair of free throws to provide the final margin of victory.

Swope was 6-of-8 from the free throw line and also collected four rebounds, four assists and a steal. Travillian also picked up five rebounds and two blocks, while Mccrary added five boards and a steal to go with his four points.

Kaleb Biddle had three points and one rebound. J.J. Hunt finished with two points, two assists and a steal. Payton Newman had one point, one steal and three boards. J.D. Black added two rebounds and a steal, while Jarod Barnes also had two boards.

Zach Barrett had five 3-pointers and led all scorers with 23 points for the Ramblers. Sam Hall finished with 12 points for Lafayette.

Swope scored 17 points, grabbed eight rebounds, collected four steals, dished out four assists and blocked one shot in a 53-26 win over CVMS on Thursday.

Travillian had nine points, five rebounds and three assists for Heritage. Mccrary picked up eight points, six rebounds, two steals and an assist. Jedd Johnson added four points, six rebounds and two steals, while Black had four points, three rebounds and two steals.

Hunt, J.C. Armour and Caiden Baldwin each had three points. Newman rounded out the scoring with two points. Barnes had a pair of rebounds, while Biddle collected one assist and one steal.

Individual scoring for the Eagles had not been provided as of press time.

The Ramblers rebounded to beat Dade County, 56-50, this past Thursday.

Lafayette trailed 22-11 after one quarter, but got 17 second-quarter points from Barrett as they rallied to win the home game.

Barrett’s barrage was part of a 22-6 second period that saw the Ramblers forge a 33-28 lead at the break. Grant Langford finished with nine points in the win, while Evan Williams had eight.
