Middle School Boys’ Basketball: Rest of league chasing Ringgold, Lakeview

The Heritage Generals and Ringgold Tigers finally clashed for the first of two regular season meetings last Tuesday night in the Tigers’ den and in the end it was the home team who was able to claw its way to a 55-47 victory in a battle of unbeatens.

Heritage led 27-23 at the break, but a 17-point third quarter would give Ringgold the lead and they would hang on in the final period to take down their Catoosa County rivals.

O’reilly Matthews had 17 points for the Tigers in the win, followed by Brent Bowman with 15 and Cooper Sexton with 12. Christian Smith added five points, Brevin Massengale four and Ty Gilbert two.

Bryce Travillian had 16 points and three rebounds for the Generals, followed by 15 points and nine boards from Kaden Swope. Kaleb Biddle scored nine points, while Paxton Mccrary had three points and grabbed two rebounds. Two points each from Payton Newman and Jedd Johnson rounded out the scoring for Heritage.

The Tigers had significan­tly little trouble as they picked up a 56-35 home victory over the Chattanoog­a Patriots on Thursday.

Bowman led three Tigers in double figures 17 points. Massengale had 15 and Matthews finished at 12. Sexton dropped in six points, while three other Ringgold players added two points apiece.

Ringgold enjoyed a 26-11 advantage at halftime and coasted to a 43-29 victory at Lafayette in a Saturday matinee.

Bowman drained three 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 22 points for the Tigers, who remain undefeated (8-0) on the season. Massengale and Matthews had five points each in the win. Sexton and Smith both finished with four points. Jordan Garnica had two points and Luke Rominger added one.

Dawson Pendergras­s led the Ramblers with 12 points, followed by Zach Barrett with six, Grant Langford with five, Evan Williams with four and Sam Hall with two.

Lafayette began the week with a 41-32 home win over Gordon Lee last Monday.

Barrett hit three 3-pointers and finished with 14 points to lead Lafayette. Hall finished with 11 points, followed by Langford with six and Pendergras­s with five. Williams dropped in four points, while Nick Adams chipped in with one.

Nate Dunfee had 13 points to go with five rebounds for Gordon Lee. Brodie Genter had nine points and six rebounds. Kade Cowan finished with four points, while Conner Whitman, Jordan Underwood and Holt Roberts had two points apiece.

Against CVMS, the Trojans jumped out to a 12-6 lead after the first period and went on to a 32-24 victory over the Eagles.

Roberts had 11 points and Dunfee added nine points for Gordon Lee, followed by five points from Cowan, three by Genter and two points each from Underwood and Blake Rodgers.

Matthew Ramsey had nine points for CVMS, while Judd Anderson scored six. Anderson and Jakobe Turner were praised for their defensive efforts.

The Lakeview Warriors stayed hot with a 56-24 victory over Chattanoog­a Valley last Tuesday. Jamichael Davis had 26 points and Amari Burnett finished with 19 points.

Eight different players scored for the Eagles, led by Dakota Stone with six points.

The Warriors continued their impressive 2018 season as they defeated Rossville, 55- 34, in an NGAC game at Lakeview on Thursday.
