Middle School Basketball: Oakwood teams battle in postseason

The Oakwood Christian Middle School Lady Eagles went into Monday of this week just one win away from an ISC tournament championsh­ip.

Oakwood girls 18, St. Jude 14

The Lady Eagles closed out the regular season last Tuesday night with a four-point win in Chattanoog­a. Mana Gilchrist paced the Lady Eagles with 14 points, followed by Alli Dortch and Elizabeth Potthast with two points each.

Oakwood girls 30, Berean Academy 18

OCA got the win in the tournament semifinal game back at St. Jude on Saturday. Dortch led a balanced attack with 10 points, followed Gilchrist with seven, Cheyenne Simpson and Caroline Tindell with five and Potthast with three.

The Lady Eagles were scheduled to face Chattanoog­a Grace for the title on Monday. Due to newspaper deadlines, results were not available as of press time.

Oakwood boys 25, Berean Academy 16

The Eagles got eight points from Chase Heptinstal­l, seven from Garrett Dempsey and six by Hunter Hickman in Friday’s win. Tomo Gilchrist and Ryan Phillips added two points apiece.

St. Jude boys 38, Oakwood 34

The Eagles’ season came to an end with a loss in the tournament semis on Saturday. Gilchrist paced the team with 14 points, while Dempsey finished with eight. Cason Baggett added seven points in the loss, while Heptinstal­l added five.
