Wiley, Kelehear named Players of the Year in Region 6-AAAA

With the region basketball tournament­s wrapping up across the state last week, postseason awards are beginning to trickle in and it should come as no surprise that several players and two coaches from the Catoosa-walker County area have been honored.

Region 6-AAAA’S All-region Team was made up of just 10 play- ers each and players from the two counties comprised five spots on both squads, including both Players of the Year.

Heritage senior Emily Wiley was named the Player of the Year on the girls’ side, while senior teammates Ansley Bice and Reagan Armour joined her on the team. The girls’ glitter squad also included Lafayette sophomore Latyah Barber and Lafayette freshman Mykeria Johnson.

Lafayette senior Alex Kelehear was the overwhelmi­ng choice for Player of the Year on the boys’ side, while two more Rambler seniors, Dee Southern and Tyrese Marsh, were also selected to the team. Heritage senior Will Allen and Ridgeland senior Fred Norman were also voted onto the squad.

In Region 6-AAA, Ringgold juniors Sydney Pittman and Rachel Akers, along with LFO senior Macey Gregg were first team selections on the girls’ All-region Team, while LFO junior Milijah Williams and Ringgold junior Shelby Cole were second team picks. LFO senior Anna Rountree was an honorable mention pick.

Boys’ All-region first team members included LFO senior Ruddy Ware and Ringgold senior Cade Nayadley, while LFO junior Jacob King was named to the second team.

Ringgold head coach Marga- ret Stockburge­r was also tabbed as the Girls’ Coach of the Year in the region.

And in Region 6-A, Gordon Lee junior Gracie O’neal was a first team selection on the girls’ side, while senior Justin Wooden was picked for the first team on the boys’ side. Senior Wiley Heming was a second team boys’ pick.

Gordon Lee’s Matt Smith was also named Boys’ Coach of the Year.
