Southeast 47, Heritage 41

Saturday’s title tilt before a packed house at Southeast was physical battle that saw the Generals forge a four-point lead early in the fourth quarter. However, the Raiders were able to make the plays down the stretch to win the game and claim its first region boys’ basketball championship since 2001.

Down 27-23 in the fourth, South-

east responded with an 11-4 run over the next four minutes and they would push their advantage to 43-36 with just under a minute to play.

The Generals fought back with an inside bucket from Mcallister and a 3-pointer by Terry to cut the gap down to two with 35 seconds left. But Southeast would hit four free throws in the final 31 seconds. Southeast would go 7-of-7 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

“It was a bit of an ugly game, but we had our chances,” Heritage head coach Kevin Terry added. “We had the lead, but they just made a few more plays than we did. I thought we had some good looks in the third quarter that just didn’t go in. I was proud of my guys for fighting and clawing and staying in it though. Southeast has got a good team with a lot of seniors that have all been playing together for a while.”

Terry led all scorers with 12

points for Heritage, followed by Allen and Mcallister with 10 points each. Collins had five points and Letzgus ended the night with four.

Heritage will be hosting Blessed Trinity in the first round of the playoffs this Friday night (Feb. 15). The game will tip-off at approximately 7:30 p.m.

“I’m stoked about the playoff game and our guys are too,” Terry continued. “We know it’s going to be a pretty tough opponent, but we’re still looking forward to it.”
